We travel often and long distances with our dogs. All up and down the east coast. they have been great and we are outdoors people so as of yet there has been no issues. We very much want to take an extended trip around the country. Anyone with experience? Suggestions on the best places to go? What are the . " I would DEFINETLY do or see that again " things ? Also the longest the dogs have travelled is 3 weeks. Wil take all and any suggestions. Of course we considered leaving the dogs. The cost of boarding and the length of the trip wold prevent this and they do so love to hike and kayak!

We took 3 or 4 cross country trips with our dog. Two were with a 5th wheel and two in a car. We always stopped every two hours and stretched our legs and let the dog run around. There are some awesome rest areas on the interstates with plenty of grass and trees.
When we went by car, we used Motel 6 since they allow medium sized pets. Never had a problem.
When we moved from CA to TV, we drove all they way with my mom in her car with her dog behind us. It got to the point that the dogs would go right into the motel and sit under the clothes rod every night. It was their spot.
The way they tolerated those trips would indicate a longer trip was no problem.
