We will be moving to the Villages within a couple years and have been checking into golf carts. We were looking at the streetrods and wonder if they are worth the extra money. Does anyone have one or do you have an opinion on them?

I think mostly a status thing. I played golf with a friend who had one and found getting in and out the smaller "door way" was a lot more inconvient than in a regular cart. The roof clearance may be problen for taller people. Also, at least awhile back, all the customs came on a rebuilt chassis, if that bothers you not having new.

Will agree with Jim, when I looked into buying a cart I immediately looked into a hot rod cart but when comparing price and ease of operation, I went with a refurbished 2009 Yamaha. Dont get me wrong, they are very cool, but in upwards of 15 to 20k, for me, the Yamaha was good. Maybe someday I'll spring for one if they come out with a 66 Cobra.

There are 2 main manufacturers of the antique looking carts: Streetrod and Yesteryear.
Streetrod has a dealer in The Villages just off CR101 just north of 466. Streetrod are built on an extended Club Car chassis and come in either electric or gas so they drive pretty much like a Club Car. Very well made with high quality fiberglass work. Top folds down easily for full convertible ride.
I know less about Yesteryear but they are pretty popular as well.
You'll get lots of double takes in either.

So far, this is your first reply from someone who knows what
The REAL story is regarding the Streetrods.
First of all, they are built on brand new Club Car chassis and are
warranteed as new Club Cars. They are built in a factory in Iowa
and usually delivered by the owner personally, to the store in Palm
Ridge Plaza. They come in many configurations (29 model A, 32 Ford,
etc. All have plush interiors to Your specs. Standard is tilt steering wheel,
Stereo radio w/cd player, electric release on front storage, convertible top,
golf bag carrier and more. The carts are great for golf normally. If someone
Might be oversized, or extremely tall, having the top down is a big benefit.
Along with the standard equip., there are many more options available. The store I mentioned in Palm Ridge plaza does routine, as well as warrantee service. The initial cost of these carts might sound excessive, but consider their
value remains relatively high over time.
Well, all that being said, I am NOT in any way involved in the sale or manufacturing of these carts; just a happy owner. I hope you will consider a Streetrod; there are approx. 400 of us in The Villages.

My personal thoughts... I can't see opening and closing a door every time you want to get in or out of one of them. Don't know why anyone would want to pay for that "luxury." Also remember that when you open the doors, you have to have more side clearance and that might be a problem when doubling up in parking spaces with other carts.

No doors on the Streetrod; that's the Yesteryear carts.

:coolsmiley:I have a Streetrod golf cart. It originally came with a electric motor. I had it changed over to a gas cart. Craig took the cart back up to Iowa and removed the body to install the new stretched chassis. They did a fantastic job. I am a mechanic and a perfectionist and have zero tolerance for shabby work. These carts are built and painted by perfectionists that are on the same page as I am. Take a close look at one and you will see why they cost what they do. When I go to the Town Square, I get dozens of people that come by and comment and take pictures of my cart. When purchasing the cart, you must remember that this is your car. You will be driving this on a regular basis for years to come. When I purchased mine, The Lord spoke to me. He said "Never compromise on luxury". I bought mine and have been happy ever since!:icon_wink:

Hi Billy,
I realize this is an older post; yet may I ask .... why did you change from electric to gas? I'm a total newbie to these vehicles and have to bias one way or other. Would sure like to hear your story given your background and expertise. Thanks
