Does the group have a political agenda? Just noticed that a lot of posts that were removed on another thread were commenting on AARP's political agenda.
This was one of the groups that gave me some very useful insights into what to do with my victims' rights project with respect to getting practical information for survivors of crimes into various kinds of libraries. This was quite a while ago though.
AARP did have some good booklets and such though on crime and seniors which I tried to market to various library leaders and others. http://www.florissantmo.com/policenew/communityService/crimePrevSeniors.pdf

I think it is interesting that some posters use the word "Progressive" when talking about the Democrat party. Progressive means forward thinking which I have always considered a virtue. The antithesis of progressive is "Regressive" which has a negative meaning. It means going backwards or hindering.
Obviously, if the Democrat Party is Progressive or has a forward thinking agenda - the Republican party is Regressive and has a backward thinking or a hindering agenda.

The fight against what you leftists are "progressing" to is a fight this nation cannot lose and retain freedom of the individual.
You want to call the fight to retain conservative principles of self-determination and individual liberty "regressive", I'll proudly wear that mantle.

I dropped AARP when they backed Obamacare. All they were looking for is a way in for their Medicare Advantage plans, etc.
I do know that I can get 20% at Denny's with my AARP card. I am satisfied with the 10% from my AAA card.

AARP is a "liberal organization", and it's really no secret.

I do not think anyone would disagree that AARP is a lobby group that definitely is on the liberal side. The conservatives are the ones who are trying to take healthcare, social security, and medicare away from the seniors and tax them more. AARP is lobbying Congress on behalf of seniors to see this does not happen.

Interesting....I read quite a bit, and never once in my reading have I ever read about the conservative plan to take HEALTHCARE, SOCIAL SECURTIY AND MEDICARE AWAY, AND TAX MORE.....
You would think that would make some paper somewhere if there was even a small inkling of any truth in this claim. Amazing the wild accusations, albeit not true, you hear on here !
Wont ask for a link, because some find that old fashioned..you know the backing up of serious accusation !!!!

AARP is now if it was not at it's birth, a Leftist organization. They backed Obamacare just to make money off their insurance. 50+ people join for discounts and then AARP uses their money for Leftist causes.
There are other Seaoned Citizen groups that are Conservative, such as the AMAC, Association of Mature American Citizens.
I dropped AARP back when they were fighting Bush 43's plans to reform Social Security for people under 50. I, a Fed, asked them if they would help our fight against the GPO, and WEP. (Government Pension Offset and "Windfall Pension Exclusion". Misnamed rules that lower the amount of Social Security that a Fed earned in private industry and the amount of spousal Social Security. They said they had no need for retired or working Feds thought the cuts were just fine. So, I let my membership lapse. I am in NARFE and AMAC.

AARP is out to sell insurance. They backed Obamacare to sell insurance.
They were nasty to me when I asked them to joinf fight against the WPE and GPO, said they did not care about Feds.
AMAC is the conservative answer to AARP. and if you are a Fed. joine NARFE.

Let us begin this conversation, and I will just assume it WILL be a conversation by saying I have read and studied Paul Ryans budget and am on record on this forum as well as others as saying it is much too stark but is a great beginning in showing the way this country must go.
Now, let us begin by saying that your comments are the spin from all liberals and have zero justification. A few things from NON biased links....not criticizing your link...they have a job to do but lets quote the unibased CBO.....and this particular passage has wars on the budget but totally disputes what you and those on the left are saying...
"House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s new budget plan specifies a long-term spending path under which, by 2050, most of the federal government aside from Social Security, health care, and defense would cease to exist, according to figures in a Congressional Budget Office analysis released today. [1]
The CBO report, prepared at Chairman Ryan’s request, shows that Ryan’s budget path would shrink federal expenditures for everything other than Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and interest payments to just 3¾ percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2050. Since, as CBO notes, “spending for defense alone has not been lower than 3 percent of GDP in any year [since World War II]” and Ryan seeks a high level of defense spending — he increases defense funding by $228 billion over the next ten years above the pre-sequestration baseline
CBO Shows Ryan Budget Would Set Nation on Path to End Most of Government Other Than Social Security, Health Care, and Defense By 2050 — Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
Now keep in mind that Ryan has changed his original proposal and also keep in mind I am not a fan of either...I am of the direction it would take us....but keep in mind that, for one thing that you always are spouting about on here relative to health care, I give you a quote from USA Today when the compared the Ryan budget with the Obama budget...
"Ryan's plan would require private insurance companies to take all comers, regardless of their condition, and it includes risk-adjustments to give incentive payments to plans that end up covering less healthy individuals."
Fact check: Previewing the Obama vs. Romney (and Ryan) budget battle (http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-04-06/budget-fact-check/54088346/1)
I quoted that only because with every comment on health care you bring up how wonderful Obama was to do what Ryan wants to do also...and the link is a good one for comparison of budgets. Keep in mind....
"Much of the Obama-Ryan disagreement is a policy debate over what would work best to slow the growth of Medicare spending — which is the ultimate goal of both sides"
This entire issue is one that needs discussion, but can you recall the last time there was a congressional debate on a budget ? How about NEVER in the last years...NOT ONE. They are all in la la land.
I think I have addressed all but the tax increases you allude to ON SENIORS. The entire Ryan budget is based on being able to totally redo the tax code thus speaking to this is folly but it sure makes for great spin from the left and one of my number of criticisms of this is that it has allowed that. The Republicans are allowing themselves to be set up as bad guys by the left.....neither party desrves anything, but the Senate keeps bringing up bills for votes that are popular and then add things like funding for them from sources that they KNOW the Republicans will vote against..then they can say...oh, the Republicans are against holding the line on interest on student loans...which is total folly...the most recent was the pay thing for women...the congress, and I speak to both parties are so full of hot air, and I assume themselves, that they are useless.
Bottom line is that your one sentence is pure spin...none of it is true, and even though I offer links, etc to show that, even those mean very little. Somehow, someway we need a leader to show the way, because unless we have ONE party in total control it appears that we are not going anywhere but off that cliff that folks keep talking about. And frankly if ONE party IS in total control, I personally find fault with both.
But again.....I read EVERYTHING with an open mind. I am not a dogmatic Republican as you may think. I just happen to think the current occupant of the WH is very dangerous left unfettered. I have no allegiance to either party...and as I said in the thread about leaders, I value character a lot more than most I suppose. Nobody but me mentioned it in that thread and I have been publicly chastised on here for bringing up character issues, but that is what we need....a leader....and if I missed anything come after me.....but sans the name calling, ok ?

The original post was concerning AARP. AARP lost its way a long time ago but most of us didn't notice until they began increasing their marketing for insurance sales. They claim discounts but anyone who has sold something knows that another level inserted between producer and consumer only adds to the costs. AARP backed Obama because they wanted to eliminate Medicare Advantage as promised by Obama to them so they could capture that market. I left AARP way back and two years ago joined AMAC. My opinion of AMAC is still in limbo.
By the way while at the doctors today I was looking for something to read. Most of the magazines were Parenting...which we arer all well passed. so I picked up a Readers Digest which I haven't read for years and found an article about Moms and sons. I began reading it until the article suggested that since it was ok for Dad's to teach their daughters sports it was Ok for Moms to teach their sons how to knit. I stopped reading. No I don' t think being called a metrosexual is a compliment. Sorry

Colonel Sherman T. Potter had a pair of words that fits here: Meadow Muffins
Your quoting parts of conservative links is not proof of anything except that you do spend a whole lot of time on the computer.
You go ahead and believe what you want or what your links want you to believe.
Personally, I am hoping tomorrow morning is sunny so I do not get rained out of golf two days in a row.

USA Today...conservative ?
WOW....I might read a lot but suggest that you begin ! CBO was quoted so much during the passing of that famous healthcare bill by Democrats to justify it they had to have press releases every day !
What an amazing response. Giving a serious answer to you seems to be fruitless.....willl keep that in mind...no matter what keep it the way he wants it, snarky and cute !

Yep, you made a fool of me but wont happen again. That is your forte and you are good at it. You obviously come here for the "fun"...thats fine. I now am completely aware of that now. I thought your remarks were serious and well intended....now I know about that also

Wow, you're in full spin cycle, but you didn't mention how we're trying to foul the air and dirty the water and make grandma eat cat food.
Where I come from, there are plenty of grandmas who are eating cat food or something similar, or choosing between heat and eat or are going hungry, and are struggling with drug donut holes and cutting their pills in half or quarters to make them last longer. As a grandma and great grandma myself, I do not think this is funny and take a comment like that as disrespectful.
About AARP (what this thread is supposed to be about), a Medicare supplement plan is a Medicare supplement plan if its the same plan. My plan F is identical in its benefits to every plan F. But my AARP plan F costs me way less than every other plan F, so somehow its being supplemented or the company is serving me by being willing to make less profit. Does that make AARP socialist? I don't think so. Are they out to sell insurance? I hope they continue to, because they are saving me money that I can use for groceries.
Besides the very low cost driver safety courses that AARP offers, my insurance plan is my only contact with the organization, and I am grateful for the savings. Everything does not have to be political.

Yes, it is true about the high cost of prescriptions. Not all can be bought at WalMart for $3.
The Affordable Health Care Act is taking care of this with the shrinking of the donut hole. It is also taking care of seniors who could not find health insurance due to pre-existing conditions.
AARP lobbied in favor of the Affordable Health Care Act. They are a mighty fine organization.

My point to Buggy went ......wooooooshhhhh.......right over your head. It wasn't meant to be taken literally.
I also do not believe for one minute that anyone is eating cat food, not with all the money thrown at people with "food stamps". Give me a break.
AARP give the vast share of it political support to Democrats and liberal causes. That's all that's being discussed here.
Glad you love AARP, but they don't get a dime of my money if I can help it.

I lost any respect that I might have had for AARP when they came out against any form of testing elderly drivers to see whether or not they should still be on the road.
That made it clear to me that they, indeed, *are* working for their constituents - even if it means killing and maiming other people.
If they had at least offerred some reasonable compromise, they could have kept some of the moral high ground but, of course, they screamed "discrimination" at the top of their lungs and ignored the statistics that piled up in front of them.
