Asteroid Warning System: Report Calls For International Effort To Avert Possible Catastrophe (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/08/asteroid-warning-system-report-catastrophe_n_1580371.html)

Was not sure where to put this one. I have no clue as what the government would expect us to do this information if this were any kind of sizable asteroid.

You see - now, this is why Newt wants us to go to outer space, or something.

We will need to abandon earth and all live on the moon before catastrophe strikes. Think I read about that in an early Superman comic book. Nobody would listen to Jar-el, or Kar-el, or whatever his name was.

I've seen this. We send Bruce Willis up to plant a nuke on the asteroid. Should work again, I imagine.

According to a White House source the asteroid is doing fine. Not to worry.

In all seriousness...

1) It was Jor-El (I'm a geek and proud of it!)

2) Nuking an asteroid won't do much good. Instead of one bing bang you'll get a LOT of big bangs.

3) The real solution is to detect the asteroid early and then send a rocket to rendez-vous with it and ever-so-gently nudge it to a non-lethal course. When it's millions of miles away, you only have to nudge it VERY little to make it miss.

This is why we fund things like NASA.
