Anyone notice a very tall pole in Fernandina on the golf course where the water treatment or sewage treatment area is across from Bonifay Country Club? Anyone know what it is?

I think it might be a weather station? Considering my only requirement for my lot was that I had no obstruction in my view, and it stands three times the height of the palm trees, I am going to have to put a call in to someone...

Could it be a stationary GPS broadcasting unit affixed to the pole? They are is used for highly accurate GPS golf positions?

I'm pretty sure it is a flag pole. I bet the flag is coming tomorrow! :)

I think it is a lightening sensor....and corresponding siren.
Definately went off over the weekend!

Bill. Did you seriously look at my left leg in this orthopedic boot that is keeping me off the golfcourse and causing me to be so irritable? And causing a lot of posting? Well that is going to far. But I am somewhat hobbled.
Plus. I don't dance on a pole. I have perfectly good tap shoes.
Sheesh.

Just established that the pole has been there since 2011. Unbelievable. We have been looking at it and never noticed it.

Yeah, but no one has actually said for sure what the pole is being used for, except maybe lightning sensor/siren.
Gracie has denied Bill's guess.
I usually know when lightning hits though, without a pole! And, apparently it can only be seen in even numbered years.

I'm sitting deep in the heart of Texas thoroughly enjoying your humor and counting the days until we are looking for that pole! Do you guys ever actually meet offline and enjoy each other? Looking forward to it!!!!

It is really an antenna from a alien space ship that crashed there last week. The space ship hit so hard that it became buried with only the antenna showing.

I wonder if it is the antenna used to controll the irrigation system for the golf course.

I HOPE it's a cell tower...my neighbors say that Verizon drops calls in Sanibel, and we're moving there tomorrow!

Now that's funny!
I don't think you can be 1/3. I think it only comes in halves, quarters, eights, sixteenths, etc.!

It is a GPS signal for construction in the new areas. This is what my rep told me and he said it would be removed in a couple years after the build.
