Hello villagers,
I will be retiring and moving to TV within the next year.
I have read that there is a sewer treatment plant near Bonifay.
Can anyone comment on that and fill me in with any info I need to make a good decision regarding buying south of 466A?
Thanks, Sue

There's already another a mile from the one you're mentioning and it's N. of 466A overlooking Bogart and Bacall Golf courses. So, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

South of 466A is great and in between LSL and Brownwood (BW?)
If you are talking about the water tower on Bonifay Path; not to worry.

For me, I find that the re-sale homes north of 466A are a lot better deal than the new homes south of 466A.
A couple of nice neighborhoods are Caroline, Virginia Trace, and Mallory Hill. Lots lower bond, no construction, mature landscaping, homes with built-ins that do not have to be added, and able to negotiate price with the seller.

On another note, I preferred to build so that I could customize what I wanted prior to moving in! I guess it is whatever your preference is. Although, I have to agree that Caroline, V. Trace and Mallory are really nice neighborhoods! I looked at a few pre-owned in Mallory and Caroline... Just do what makes you happy, but both sides of 466A are good!

The closest sewer treatment facility is by Bonita and Buena Vista - this will handle all of the sewage for the area south of 466A. It was recently expanded for this purpose. The tank near Bonifay is a storage tank for the water that is pumped from the well nearby.

If you go the google maps and type in, Bonita Blvd, The Villages, Fl, you will see the treatment plant on the corner of Buena Vista Blvd and Bonita Blvd. There is also another one north of El Camino Real. I do know there are times you don't want to be downwind from them.

We live on Bonifay golf course and haven't smelled a thing in the month we've lived here. Love the area.

Hi, thanks for the info, I'm a bit confused because I know there is a treatment facility at Buena Vista and Bonita, but I have read on TOTV that there is a sewage treatment facility next to Bonifay, is this true? Have you read this?

Hi, so there is no treatment facility near Bonifay?
I think there is some confusion over what a treatment facility looks like. I have personally toured the facility off BV near Bonita and had a presentation by the person in charge of all treatment facilities in TV. He told us that when construction began south of 466A that the Bonita facility would be expanded to serve the entire new area. This addition did occur over the last year or two.
The county planning maps show the location of the wells that are used around TV. By each well there is a storage facility. Some are towers as are plainly visible. Others are ground level tanks. The well next to Bonifay has a ground level tank -pretty much identical to the tank near the intersection of Morse and Bonita which serves the well in the middle of the Morse/Bonita roundabout.
Having seen what a real treatment facility looks like VERY up close and personal, I can assure you that the tank by Bonifay is NOTHING like a sewage treatment plant. I wish those who spread such rumors did a bit of research before they posted.

I think the confusion has to do with the odors that have been experienced near the driveway leading up to the Bonifay C.C. It was previously mentioned on TOTV that it was caused by fertilization of the new golf course. I smelled it a few months ago but haven't recently.

I have heard that in keeping with the "old West" theme around Brownwood that only outhouses are being used.

Have played golf at Bonifey and at first tee just south of that pump station, sewage plant, or whatever there has been a nasty smell on a few occasions. Worth investigating.

I live sort of near Bonita and Buena Vista. I work near the other. I really never knew they were there so I'd say there is no problem.

There is no sewer plant south of 466A. There was a "smell" for a few days in the area of Bonifay Country Club but it had nothing to do with a sewer plant. Something about the water and/or the water tower but I'm not sure what? Whatever, it was fixed in a few days. If you are looking for re-sales, I would personally take a close look at Hadley or Hemmingway if I want to be south. We think Sanibel is about as good as it gets!
