It might be worthwhile understanding who the enemy might be.
The Syrian Army is comprised of 220,000 well-trained regulars and 280,000 reserves, who also undergo regular training. The army is equipped with the latest Russian armor and artillery weapons.
The Syrian Navy has 6,500 sailors manning two guided missle frigates, 22 missle attack boats (including two with the most advance Russian missle systems), two sub chaser-killers, and four mine warfare boats.
Information on the Syrian Air Force is highly secretive. However, it is known that their air force is organized into 7 ground attack support squadrons, 20 interceptor squadrons, 12 attack helicopter squadrons, one electronic warfare squadron, and four transportation squadrons. They are known to be equipped with modern Russian planes and helicopters, many the latest and best available in Russia.
So before folks start making noise about attacking Syria, we'd better understand that this ain't no Iraq or Libya.
What's the Russian connection to Syria? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93Syria_relations

Somebody send this thread to Willard - his advisors are saying the US should be arming the Syrian rebels.
And, what is the next step after that????

Mitt Romney does seem a lot more hawklike than Barack Obama. We would probably have military presences in a lot more areas if Romney gets the White House in 2012.

It probably should also be noted that Turkey, a NATO member, shares a 560-mile long border with Syria. There's only 650 miles between their capitals. Turkey and Syria are both largely Sunni Muslim populations, although Syria's king, Bashar al-Assad, all of his ruling party and his military leadership are Alawite Shi'a Muslims. The people being killed in Syria are almost all Sunni Muslims, like the Turks.
So far Turkey, which has the second-largest army of NATO with 720,000 regulars, equipped with the most modern American and British weapons and aircraft, has made no move whatsoever to get involved in the Syrian civil war, even though those being killed are of their own Muslim sect.
So, I might ask, if the Turks aren't interersted enough to get involved in Syria...why the hell are we talking about it? Mitt Romney has said the U.S. should do something--he hasn't said what. But I'd ask him WHY??

What do you expect? Romney's got the Bush neo-cons advising him - namely John Bolton, Dan Senor, etc. - the shoot first, ask questions last gang.

There's no way I think we should get in the middle of the squabble in Syria. People have been wiping each other out in Africa since I was born with no real reaction from the U.S.
What's the difference now, oil? More reason we should be drilling for every barrel of oil we can recover from our own deposits, and immediately approving the Keystone Pipeline.

I think we all can agree on the points you made.

The Russians would love nothing better. Our other two wars are breaking us. They know it, heck it broke them. Spending more money over there is exactly what they want.

That country has NO natural resources, so why should we care if they are killing each other. We need to stay home and solve the problems we have here. If the current administration wants to get involved let them send their kids, none of ours need to go.

Are Muslims a natural resource?

You would expect me to want to invade Syria to fight in their civil war?
I was against the US fighting in Vietnam for their civil war.
The US has no business fighting in another country's civil war.

Not unless you can turn them into refined gasoline.

what we all know is that when America has a strong military stance around the world and a no non sense LEADER in the WH there is a lot less weight thrown by other countries.
It does not mean having a presence in more countries if a hawk is in the WH. It is nothing more than doing what needs to be done to protect one's citizens FIRST just as the oath of office promises.....there is that word again....PROMISES!!!

Of course, my reaction was to having ALL my points in a political vein agreed to by you, and not a reaction about the substance of your thought.
