Had a great breakfast this past Saturday at Athens NY Diner in Spanish Springs. Greek omelet with feta cheese (sorry food police). The waiter was very friendly. They were not busy at all -- I wonder if the construction of the plaza/gazebo area at SS is hurting their business.

I'm wondering the same thing! We love Athens. Try the eggs Benedict!

Just left Athens in SS. Place was packed when we left. Got there about 8am and they were already serving customers breakfast. Had the NJ breakfast, Taylor Ham, egg and cheese on a roll and thought I was at the diner on RT 3 in Clifton. Yes, the construction is going on but its well worth the trip.

I've only been there twice. The first time the waitress dropped her tray and I ended up with a lap full of spaghetti. Second time went for breakfast. Waiter dropped a plate of eggs and potatoes down my back. What surprised me is neither time did they take anything off the bill. Good food though, once I got it.

You must be pretty good at beating the odds if you got hit 2 out of 2 times like that. Quick, go play the lottery before that luck runs out! :a20:

Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese on a roll is the breakfast of champions. There is another restaurant in the villages that serves that sandwich also.

Hey guys, the owner of the Athens read my post and wrote ma a PM and offered me a chance to meet his family and have dinner on him. He remembered the spaghetti incident and said he told the waitress to take the meal off the check, but she must have forgotten. I think that shows a lot of class. Please do not let my semi-negative review stop anyone from frequenting this family's wonderful resturant. We need to support the family owned establishments so we have opions other than the chains. Thank you for listening (um, reading).

We were there yesterday for our second visit and we both were more than satisfied with the meals and the attention we were given. The only complaint I have is with the deserts! Too dang irrestible! The earlier visit for breakfast was even more enjoyable than yesterday, but only because of our food selection & that we were outdoors.

Anyway, I was hoping to catch Chris (the owner) there yesterday as he wanted to meet us following a separate PM communication a few weeks ago. As my luck goes, I picked a time he wasn't around. Guess I won't consider a lottery ticket either! At least his sister was there and she was quite hospitable as were everyone else we encountered.

:mmmm:

Ate dinner there for the first time last week & went back a few days later for lunch! Both times had delicious food & very good service. I'll definitely return!

I don't know if I like that kind of luck!

There's a line in an Albert King blues song, Bad Luck and Trouble,
that says: if it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.

That is exactly the response from an owner/manager that would make me WANT to eat there. Truly cares about the customer. I will go out of my way to eat there when I'm in town.

After a movie at the Rialto on Father's Day, my wife and I had dinner at Athens NY.

I had a really nicely prepared lamb shank that came with expertly done vegetables and a baked potato and a greek salad and a nice pour of pinot noir. My wife had a lemon pepper salmon she said was very good.

Our server Andre was very attentive and also entertaining. We had a lovely experience in all. The only weird part was the emptiness of Spanish Springs. I hope they finish the refurbishing soon.

Had breakfast there last Saturday....good food, good service and good value.
If you haven't ate there yet, give them a try.
