I am replacing my complete A/C Heater unit after nine years. I have received bids from Munns, Sunshine and Sun Kool. Does anyone have any dealings positive or negative with these three as it pertains to complete replacements
Thanks, Waxman

M&S replaced my unit including service lines. Did a very neat and complete job and have had no problems. I would recommend them.

Maybe I should be thinking along the same lines because, although my Goodman unit is only two years old, apparently it needs a new evaporator coil which is under warranty but the labor etc cost is $1200 to replace it. So my question is what were the ballpark costs and/or what did it eventually cost to replace the A/c+Heat unit. Any info would be appreciated.

I've used SunKool for my AC/Heater service for 9 years. Had a new air-conditioner put in and my furnace was upgraded to brand new with full warranty instead of buying a whole new furnace. They were able to use the existing cabinet and put in all new guts. Saved some money on that. I think SunKool is really good to do business with. They could have sold me a whole new furnace if they wanted to.

I not know about complete replacements, but we just moved in recently and our a/c went out. Called Sunshine late on a Fri night and they were here first thing Sat morning. We will keep using them.

And others that recommended Chuck. I did just that yesterday afternoon and am glad I did. I would agree with all the complimentary comments re Chuck, not to mention a good deal of money that he saved me.

I gather that most on TOTV would agree that a long-term AC parts and labor warranty would be a good idea. The SunKool rep offered us a 10-year Carrier labor contract to go with the the 10-year parts coverage that comes with our new house. The cost would be $699. He also offered a twice-yearly preventive services contract at less than $200 a year. Does this all sound reasonable?

To me this sounds very reasonable. $70 a year insurance on your AC is great piece of mind. However the $200 preventive services sounds high. I pay $100 a year up here in NW Florida and they do a great job.

I hope you have a good reason for replacing your system after only nine years or you're wasting your money in my estimation. I've been an HVAC contractor for 38 years and if you're replacing it for efficiency reasons only you'll never recover the costs. On the other hand if there are serious repairs needed...
Do you have a heat pump or gas furnace?
