Were they draining this area or is it a sinkhole issue?

Wow, that's just shocking! Hopefully those people didn't pay extra for a "water view"!

Not to worry, the Developer gives each of them a refund for their lost of a view:pepper2:

When they fill it in all the houses should run their hoses into pond and have their water bills waived for a month.
Seriously, that's pretty amazing!

Why, don't you think that it will just be temporary until the hole is fixed.
Homes on retention ponds do not guarantee there always will be water

Is this the pond that people race their RC Boats? It doesn't look like it simply because I don't see the colored floating objects (don't know the proper name for them). Also am pleasantly surprised at the lack of debis on the pond bottom. Also someone just had to walk out, how did they know how stable the remaining bottom was, or are they just "KOO-KOO"?
Thanks for the pictures.

Darn right! Another sinkhole could have swallowed them up (or down).

Your paper work on pond views states "May or may not contain water."

I saw the footprints. There appeared to be only one set of prints so one individual had a good look down into the hole. One would have to assume it was an employee of the developer ... but maybe not. Nevertheless, it would be a good idea to have a few no trespassing signs placed in that area as with such a hole there may be a possible element of danger .... especially with all of the grandkids visiting at this time of the year.

Thanks for the pictures. I am unable to drive by at the moment and it is nice to see to get some perspective.
Let us know if you see surveyors there and fill being brought in. Looks like several new houses could be squeezed in

I heard that some early lots were sold with a water view. Then a pond went dry and the developer had to pay to repair it. From then on the wording in the contract was changed to say "may or may not contain water". Also heard the maintenance of the retention ponds is now the responsibility of the numbered CDD in which it is located. I am not saying this is fact. Maybe someone else has better info.

If so, could that present an 'injury or repair' liability issue for the residents of that CDD? Hope the elected reps of that CDD are aware of this situation.

Rode by the dry Ashland lake (with the sink hole) in a golf cart today.
Unbelievable stench. Feel sorry for those living there.
A biologist could probably weigh in on the plant life and dry bottom of the pond adding to the odor. I know much of it is the dead fish.

Its off Lynnhaven Drive. If you go on Buena Vista and turn on Rainey Trail and take the gate to Ashland/ Lynnhaven. Stay right on Lynnhaven drive and stop at the Ashland pool. The dry lake is next to the pool.
Ashland, Lynnhaven, Bonnybrook were all built just south of 466 around 2004.

Believe it's a pond and not a "lake".......just my observation after numerous trips to the ashland pool.

Chuck,
You are so right. Its a retention pond but some TV maps call it a "park with a lake". LOL! The park is one tree with a picnic bench and the lake is a retention pond.

There was a small mention in either Tues or Wed Sun about the Ashland pond ... basically said that 2 sinkholes were to be plugged and pond will be refilled by rain water. There is also mention on the districtgov.org website under what's happening.
They aren't avoiding the topic but certainly not using any language that might cause panic.
I would be surprised if they discussed the one in Hudson...not relevant to TV and again not wanting to feed any panic.
Midge...thanks for posting the pictures - very revealing.

Could this happen to say Lake Sumter or....has that lake always been there?

Lake Sumter is man made. I'm no expert but it seems no one knows where and when a sink hole will appear, so it could happen in Lake Sumter.
I think it would be harder to drain because of its size, depending on how it was dug out. I sure wouldn't worry about it. Plus, seeing that Sumter Square is the show place for the Developer, I'm sure it would be fixed as soon as possible.
As was mentioned before, when the Ashland pond drained, it drained two other ponds. They are all connected retention ponds.
I have no idea how Lake Sumter is built but it is a lake vs a pond.

I do not believe Lake Sumter is man-made but is a natural lake. It has been dredged and shaped, of course, but it is a spring-fed natural lake - to my knowledge. By the way, did you see the hundreds of tilapia nesting circles in the lake earlier this year? It was amazing to see and each one had a large tilapia in it.

Midge, do you honestly believe that a "No Trespassing" sign would keep grandkids out of the area? What about a little common sense for them? Of course, there were "Danger" signs posted about the buffalo and still grandparents put little kids over the fence. Signs do very little good when the brainpower is missing.

Buggyone,
Thanks for the info.
I'm sure you're right. Where else could all that water come from.
I was just repeating what the tour guide told to us on the short little boat ride on the lake. Guess he meant the dredging and forming the shape.
Yes, saw the tilapia. It was amazing.

The signs would be like the STOP and YIELD signs in TV .... just 'suggestions.'

The size of this pond must be enormous - the large, heavy equipment is dwarfed in comparison. Thanks once again Midge.
