Several friends and I have discussed in depth the yard sign ban and have concluded the following that make a lot of sense.

We concluded that the Villages Reality with the blessing of the Developer is behing the signage restriction. Look at is this way, the developer owns the Daily Sun and the also the Villages Home Sales and the majority of new homes sales are advertised in the Daily Sun. Would you think the developer would charge an advertising fee to himself ???? For sure, all other realitors will certainly have to pay a costly fee to advertize in the Daily Sun. A 12x12 inch sign in a window does little to advertize a home for sale and borders on being really foolish. Wow, what an edge the Villages realitors have over the other local realitors.

There is a reason for no signs...I have sold properties in many areas that did not advertise with a for sale sign. If someone is looking for a home, all they need to do is get a Village or non-Village realtor...they have information about the homes for sale. Looking at ugly real estate signs is not something I would look forward to seeing when we get there.

however, if you have addition put on your house the builder gets to put a very big sign on your lawn indicating he is doing work there. hmmmmmm.

It's in the covenants you signed. The Villages just didn't enforce it for 15 years.

I won't comment on the political hypothesis, but I can say with absolute certainty that I once had a neighbor who put a ginormous UGLY handmade sign in their front yard and it was awful. People actually stopped to gape at it and some even took pictures with their camera phones. Not of the house, just the sign which had a "portrait" of sorts on it. In retrospect did it do the job? Yes, but it also was an eyesore for everyone on the street On the other hand, I put a 12X12 For Rent sign in my rental property as we also have a ban on signs there, and was really surprised to have gotten 3 calls the very first day!
