My husband is wanting a work bench in the garage. We are building an Iris, two car garage and golf cart area. Has anyone tried to get a work bench in there? Where did you put it? I am thinking we need to ask for additional electrical plug-ins as well.

We have an Iris and bought a work bench at Harbor Freight in Ocala. Well constructed, perfect size. Put in on the left hand side near front. We also fit 2 cars and our golf cart inside. Didn't add any outlets.

Sam's Club has a very nice workbench unit, sturdy metal legs and wood top, plus a wheeled storage drawer unit that slides underneath. Perfect size and reasonably priced.

If he plans to do any work out there, add outlets in the bench area. The odds are that you will put storage shelves or cabinets over the standard outlets and it won't be easy to get at them. You may want to consider adding an ceiling fan in the expected work area.

I had the additional electrical outlets added after I purchased the house and got settled in. That way I could do further research and put the outlets where I wanted them, I also had them add a separate circuit for the golf cart charger where I wanted it.

The price turned out to be cheaper than what they wanted during the build.

The "ole boy" is a bit of a neat-nick! When I come home from golf, I put my shoes and clubs in the section allocated for his sloppy wife....tee hee!

Nice layout. Is your garage a 2-car or does it have the cart garage too? Would like to put something like that in ours, after we get moved it, but we only have the 2-car. However, we plan to have only one car and the cart, so there should be room for something similar.

Thanks for sharing the photo. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

I thought that's the way a good work bench is supposed to look.

well if you want a workbench you must be handy, right?

with the woodshop at TV and looking through these plans (http://www.finewoodworking.com/PlansAndProjects/PlansAndProjectsArticle.aspx?id=31003), build it.

This one (http://www.finewoodworking.com/FWNPDFfree/011181054.pdf) is less than $250

I have 14 feet of work bench, various bench top power tools, plus table saw. Power as designed, is adaquate as only one power tool is in use at a time. However, it's your choice.

enough for one car and one cart...
