I am not going to identify either the cart name or the Dealer as I don't want
to effect their business.
I purchased a new 2008 cart and within a few months two batteries had to be replaced because the cart would not go very far and it was listed for a
60 mile range. Not necessarily in sequence but then over the next 3 years
most of the parts/assemblies had to be replaced including but not limited to the motor, computer, brakes, starter, etc.etc. At times the cart would come to an abrupt hault and throw the passenger and driver into the front window. A couple of days ago it would not start and had to be towed. This time it was the controller. I was told I had to replace all the batteries otherwise the controller would fail again.
I spoke to a technician at another Dealership and was told that was not the case but by then I had told them to go ahead and replace the batteries. I was also told that the lack of a converter could have drained the batteries and it should have had a conveter which it did not have.
The warranty reads the batteries are warranted for 4 years..But read the other piortions fo the warranty and it notes batteries are warranted for 4 years or 21K olms which ever comes first. Allegedy we had exceed 21K olms?
Now for the fun..I was told by the Dealer the 2008 was a bad cart since it was a new model and I should not have been surprised that it had all of these problems. Further more I was lucky they replaced these parts (excluding new batteries) at no cost. The time I was without a cart and had to rent one was not relevant. In other words the Dealer/Manufacturer were the "victims" and I was lucky they "honored their warranty"!! As a footnote he also mentioned how much warranties he had to honor on the 2009.
MORAL OF THE STORY..BE SURE ANY CART THAT IS PURCHASED IS NOT A
NEW MODEL AND DO SOME RESEARCH TO SEE IF THAT YEAR HAS HAD BIG
PROBLEMS ON ASSEMBLIES, PARTS,, ETC.ETC.
I thought it was humorous that the Dealer asserted in some way they were
the "victims" and I was the lucky one..You can't make this stuff up..:ohdear:

To prevent this from happening to other unsuspecting folks here in TV, I do think that all names should be revealed!!! Do you really think you are the first this happened too??? Highly Doubtful!!

if someone has a true need to know, perhaps they can get the info thru a private message instead.

Thank you for alerting any purchaser of a cart to potentilal problems.

I once bought a new car that had many problems and was given the same sob story by the dealer.

I guess when he looked in the mirror, he saw the only person he was concerned about.

Sorry for all the misery he is putting you through.

Not too hard to figure out.... 60 mile plus promises, new technology in 08/09...... now just a matter of which dealer and I bet that is pretty simple if you really want it.

I am sorry that happened to you PennBF, if I am correct in my guess I almost made a similar choice in that time frame.

Remembering past threads, I'll guess that it has an AC motor.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I still have some time with the warranty and
don't want to have to deal with a ticked off Dealer until it runs out. Of course I would never go back to them since the Manager was not too thoughtful, (e.g. never heard the word I'm sorry) and as they say had an attitude. I thought there was some real humor in his position that he and the manufacturer were the "victims" while I had to put up with the alleged lemon and lack of use while it was continuing to be repaired. Things I learned from the experience:
1. If it is a "new" model just coming out..Run don't walk away from it.
2. Be sure to talk to the "Manager". If he/she has an attitude as you are
buying go somewhere else as that is who you will be dealing with if problems.
3. If you want that kind of Cart talk to multiple Dealers and pick the one that seems "customer" friendly.
4. Check with Internet for ratings of carts if there is such a thing.
5. Maybe talk to a Pro at an outside course/club and see what they would
recommend. (Note: I spoke to the Pro at the Club I had been a member of
prior to moving to The Villages. The cart I chose was not one of his favorites.) Will listen better in the future.
6. If buying a used cart do some real research to see if you can figure why
it is being "resold"?
7. If you have problems right after you bought the cart be strong with the
dealer in trying to determine what is really going on.
IF ANYONE ELSE HAS SOME SUGGESTING PLEASE SEND THEM SO WE CAN
BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT WE ARE BUYING???:ohdear:
