The revelation that his step-son is now saying he abused him makes it 100% for me, but I don't believe the jury got that information. I would say it is a conviction, what a sorry excuse for a human being.

I hope you're right!! I saw the interview last night with another victim and it was stated by Kate Snow that there's another bunch of victims(8) "waiting in the wings" to see if this jury acquits him and if so, they'll be another trial in Federal court.

Hopefully they will do what they are charged with. Think for a moment how this may have been, had the admistration of Penn State acted differently when they were informed.

:agree:
From the little bit I heard on WFAN in New York yesterday, the Jerry's son testimony would be very damning and leave little doubt he would be convicted.
Jerry was going to testify but his lawyers convinced him not to as it seems they would have a hard refluting the sons eyewitness account of what went on in his home.
I tend to believe he will be convicted. Until the son came forth, It seemed he would have all his charges reduced. I sure hope he is found guilty as he is certaintly not innocence.
A very sorry excuse for a human being, indeed.

I predict they will find him guilty on most counts. It could be that on a few counts the jury might decide not enough evidence to prove.
Just hope he never gets out of prison.

Jury reaches verdict, waiting
It could be quite some time before the verdict is actually known, however. Under rules set down by the judge, no one may enter or leave the courtroom or send any communications until all 48 counts have been dispensed with, the jury has been dismissed and court has adjourned.
Guilty 45 out of 48 counts

In replying to a post above, it is not true that all child sexual predators have been abused. Child abuse is often born out of power and control and the ability to get away with it. I fostered 55 children, many victims of sexual and physical abuse as well as ran non profit organizations who helped children who were abused. What scares me as much as Sandusky is all the others who are under the radar, and who now continue not only to do what Sandusky has been charged with, but who also have access to internet and the easy access it provides to capturing innocent children. Jerry Sandusky is not an anomoly, he is just more high profile and caught the attention of the world. The less known abusers, like those in your neighborhoods that you never knew, or in your kids schools or Boy Scouts or even closer, the relative that everyone knew something about but no one, like in the Sandusky case, ever stepped forward, those people are not on tv but most often, they are not brought to trial either. And the victims suffer in silence and do not feel safe to step up and rock the family boat. Little do they know that the boat sunk long ago.

Jane,
The attorney general who spoke last night really came across with some good final words very much like yours.
Now when I hear of a male teaching kindergarten or first grade, or a single guy being a scout leader, or even when I see on TV the ads for poor children in other lands and some man holding a child in those ads and the child looks so frightened, my mind jumps to the possibility that here could be another pedophile.
You just cannot help but wonder. The principle in our elementary school was a pedophile. He was always trying to hug the girls and when later talking to old friends we all remember feeling icky everytime he was around.
It came out later he impregnated a sixth grade girl and then he commited suicide in the school basement by closing himself in a room and turning on the gas..
And of course there are the female teachers too...and they are usually very good looking.
I just don't understand, but it makes me SO mad, so disgusted and so confused as to how to help.
And horribly, there will be the awful other side too, that some teens will accuse innocent people. This is all just awful.

We need more education about this problem of child sexual abuse available to parents, teachers, psychologists, and others. Think the problem rests mostly on the justice system in the US and its emphasis on control of the system through bureaucratic checks and balances which often do not work if there are other factors involved like a very popular college football team and its image.
This could end up railroading the innocent if the image of the football team (Penn State) is more important than the rights of both defendants and victims.
The same thing seemed to happen with the Catholic Church and abuse by clergy. The Church's image was more important that the rights of both the defendants as well as those of the abused kids.

There are NO winners in this whole debacle!! NONE!!! Those young men will NEVER be the same again. I have to wonder about the wife....how could she not know "something" strange was going on??!!??
There have probably always been child molesters but now we have the media that lets us know about it. Remember our folks telling us "do NOT get into a car with a stranger!"...and the like! I've heard though, generally these folks are people who know our children--be they a relative or close family friend.

there is no way those above him were not ever aware. Another cloistered circle the wagons while the innocent pay the price of a wrecked life.
Right VS wrong is abused again......some consolation that this man was convicted on almost all counts....now watch the legal buzzards get in on the fall out scenarios.

Where was talk radio during all of this? I don't have time to listen to all of talk radio, but I do catch a little here and there. Over the past several weeks I don't recall hearing anything about it. What did they do, circle the wagons in silence?
In the past, whenever there was an issue about preditors, there was plenty of long lasting coverage. I couldn't help but hear it even if I only listened occasionally.
Here's the reason, in my opinion. Commercial radio is pro-football because football represents a financial bonanza for the fast-food industry and radio is aligned with the industry that pays it to advertise fast food. So it seems that radio has decided not to put football in a bad light by saying anything regarding this issue. Follow the money!
Now I'm waiting for a football lover to make excuses for talk-radio.

Does anyone ever use the noun "PERVERT" anymore???? A PERVERT is what this guy is and the other compromised "adults" around him knew it......but when are people going to tell KIDS what kind of pervert a guy is known to be??
When we were kids, people would say "Stay away from that pervert over there." Twenty years ago, preschool and elementary school teachers and policemen would talk to kids about "Inappropriate Touching" and "Strangers". That was getting vague enough....but now this society is so hung up on "not racially profiling" and "not being judgemental" that it is essentially telling kids not to make a judgement between good and bad. Pop culture and Junk Psychology has made so many excuses for PERVERSION and PERVERTS that kids have become desensitized to the evil that perverts like Sandusky can inflict on them.
When language and vocabulary become so watered down and weakened, so do the concepts and judgement calls behind those words.
Look at the definition below. When was the last time you heard a person use the example sentence it contains?
Definition of PERVERT
: one that has been perverted; specifically : one given to some form of sexual perversion
Examples of PERVERT
Longtime residents warned us not to go near the neighborhood pervert.
First Known Use of PERVERT
circa 1661

It is just old news for talk radio would be my opinion. I doubt if it is the money for football via the fast food industry and advertising.

How will his new future room mates welcome him?
We heard on the news that he will be "kept away from the general population".
He probably will be housed with other like minded older men....of which there are many being convicted of late.
Considering who the jury was, I had thought there might be a "hung jury" even though he was quilty as sin..........but the victims' stories were so intense and heart wrenching that defending an "institution" just wouldn't work this time around.
Justice was served. Even "troubled youth" don't deserve what he did to them......just amazing that his wife heard nothing or suspected nothing all those years. I think that she either was extremely naive and just not well read........or totally controlled by him.
Obviously, that type of thing was swept under the rug in her day......and ours.

Your prayers and ours were answered. I agree with all your comments. I also thought he had been abused as a young boy , which led him to continue on with the same pattern..........
Raising our children in the 1960's and 1970's....and beyond, it never once entered our minds to suspect boy scout leaders, coaches, teachers, music teachers, sports figures.........priests and ministers, pediatricians.........not that we had our heads in the sand, we just never imagined any of this. Now that everyone knows, they should do their utmost to protect all of our grandchildren and beyond.......and our neighbors' children, if we suspect anything out of the ordinary.

What makes you think that he is not the first in the line of a new breed of pedophiles? He found a fertile ground and exploited it.
All we ever hear is that I am one because my (insert name here) did it to me. If I was on a jury that would a crap reason. He would burn in hell (or al least have Bubba for a cell mate).

That is a very poor defense that almost no jury would buy. He may like having Bubba for a cell mate though. He will have protective custory in any prison he gets sentenced to as the other inmates would kill him for abusing children and to get credibilty with other convicts.

Campus police might have all the powers but they didn't and often don't exercise those powers. Often it seems, there main role is to sweep things under the rug.
Reality check: JoePa and other officials knew that the campus PR... oops, I mean campus police, did nothing about the report and that Sandusky was allowed continued access to children. If he and other officials had been more concerned about preventing child rape than they were about the football program, they would not have been satisfied with the non-action of the campus rug sweepers... oops, I mean campus police.

This is the same type of corporate/institutional image protecting thinking that you see in the military with the sexual assaults of women service people being swept under the rug by forcing the women sexual assault victims to see psychiatrists. It destroys their credibility while protecting the image of the military branch that has this problem of sexual assault of mainly females by their fellow soldiers/sailors/marines, etc.

We here in State College are grateful Sandusky was found guilty. We just want the victim's to find peace and to be able to live rest of life knowing justice was served. The University will have to take responsibility for failing to protect children from that man.
I am looking forward to moving to TV in less then a year !! We will be looking at manufactured home's for resale !! So if anyone plans to sell one in early 2013 let us know !!

Welcome Fran. I hope you will feel the same about this place that we three G's do. We love it.
It is raining today but not with the thunder and lightning. A gentle, constant rain that is filling up that pond that lost water and making my roses grow and our grass green. Sometimes we need a rainy day. I love to watch it rain.
But most of the time it is sunny and wonderful to zip around in your golf cart and do all of the things that are available.
Hurry home.
We'll leave the light on fer ya! ;)
