We just watched them set and start the pump. There is a second generator on the hill behind the mailboxes; don't know whether that is a back up or whether they are going to place a second pump. But in any case, water is being pumped from the sinkhole over the east side of the "dam".

I was trying to figure out the purpose of the earth dam in that particular instance. Seems if they're pumping water out of the sinkhole and the sinkhole goes to an aquifer then it would be never ending unless they're trying to fill the pond/lake before plugging the hole but if that's the case then it seems like the seepage back into the hole would wipe out the dam eventually.
Are there any engineers on here who can tell us what they're doing and why?

I certainly hope the backhoe operator is getting hazardous duty pay. He could be in the next sinkhole!

[QUOTE=CaptJohn;510341] it seems like the seepage back into the hole would wipe out the dam eventually.

There appears to be a liner covering all of the area in and around the sinkhole ... and extending to the margins that they have dug up. The liner may need repair if it is over an aquifer.

So are they digging a bigger hole? In Michigan when we get a pothole they pug it up and it comes back in the spring, never ending. This is interesting

I just drove by the Ashland pond tonight, and it was full of water.
That's how heavy the rain has been today. Have no idea if the sink hole is totally fixed.

Hope they moved the equipment out?

Hi Carguys.
Not to worry, I saw no equipment.
Are you down here enjoying this rain?

Sadly no! Soon Frogs about July 14th. Guess the ponds will be full.

Thanks for asking

H,
You aren't missing much as it is raining so hard. No outdoor activities here for a few days.
Enjoy your friends and last days in NY.

OK-I'm done hijacking this thread!

pump equipment on sunday appeared to be going under water.Today dyke they built can't be seen but can see a few hoses.I think pump is under water.Hole has not been plugged, maybe water table and or sink hole is full so can't take any more water. It will interesting to see what they do now.
