View Full Version : Famous People Living in The Villages

On another thread a retired AF General who had responsibilities for Air Force 1 at one time was brought up. It got me wondering about famous or significantly interesting people that have lived (past or present) in The Villages.
I don't know anybody that fits that bill on a national level, but I recently learned that a well know radio personality from where I moved in Upstate NY now lives here in TV and works part time on weekends for The Villages Radio Station. He also does parade announcing and private parties as a DJ, including weddings. I had hired him a few time back in NY for Halloween parties. His name is Ric Mitchell.
So my question for this thread is, who lives or has lived here in TV that was famous or well known, at least on a regional level? I remember a few being mentioned in the past, but I'm sure there must be more!

Who is the Shadow?? I do see someone on TOTV with that name but have no idea who this is.
I was famous in a circle for about 15 seconds back in 1989 at the American Association of Law Libraries meeting back in Reno, Nevada as the cataloguer of all the WESTLAW computer files. This was for a national project working in conjunction with the SUNY at Buffalo which was doing the LEXIS computer files.
Going back to Reno, Nevada in 1989 brought back a lot of memories of my searching for materials in Reno area libraries for materials to help out survivors of violent and other crimes stemming from my personal connection to the February 24, 1976 murder of Michelle Mitchell near the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Michelle Michelle was the daughter of my then high school English teacher, Barbara Mitchell, in 1976 and February 24 is also my birthday.
I tried to use my WESTLAW computer cataloger status to help survivors/victims of crimes by getting practical materials for them into various kinds of libraries. I had many successes from 1992 onward but probably just as many failures with getting practical materials into libraries of all types.
Had 24 nominations to Marquis Who's Who publications from 1992 through 2002. Also got a letter from Hillary Clinton, then First Lady, that she was going to help me with this by doing something about this niche with respect to practical information for survivors of crimes by putting this into her Health Care Reform efforts.

Gary Corsair did a small article on me for the Villages Daily Sun back in late May 2007 about my efforts trying to help survivors of crimes in Lake/Sumter/and Marion Counties. This was respect to getting the Florida Victim Services linked from these County Library Systems. I also tried to do this from the Lake/Sumter/and Marion County Sheriff's websites. The FL AG General's Office had suggested I try to make these connections back in 2000 and I have never given up trying.
Thought that was a very nice pat on the back from the Villages Daily Sun.
This is work that needs other people though to show a concern for survivors/victims of crimes by making requests to these libraries and sheriff's offices websites to get a link to the Florida Victim Services Directory. http://myfloridalegal.com/directory
It is on TOTV though, so it should help some people in this area of Central FL. when they need this information.

Had to look up Kay Starr. There seem to be a lot of parents of various "famous" people here in the Villages. I seem to recall that a number of parents of Hollywood types live here in the Villages like one of the actors from Harry's Law.
I remember that during the scenes from the 2007 tornado in the Villages one of the reporters was pointing out his parents' home and that it had survived the storm.

It is on TOTV though, so it should help some people in this area when they need this information. When I first started reading your prior post, I at first was thinking that it was a bit of a stretch. However, my problem was that... (drum roll) ... I was thinking! :22yikes:
By the time I finished reading it though, I told myself, hey skyguy, that post wasn't a pat on the back. It was perfecly within the parameters of the question I asked and it was informative besides! Your post certainly didn't deserve the comment on the post you quoted! I'm glad to see that it got deleted, post haste! Kudos on your efforts as you described them!

Well, that would be interesting. I have left out the more interesting aspects of my fight for access to practical information for survivors/victims of crimes as they are rather unbelievable. I sometimes think I need a tinfoil hat to tell them.
I did try to get the help of what was at the time the best resource for legal information for lay people-- Findlaw- back from 2000 or so through 2005 but had very little success because of extremely clever trolls.
I did also hear from people about what I posted on Findlaw that many would consider celebrities even though you never actually know whom you are talking with on the Internet. Could have been some 13 year old in Topeka with too much time on his hands.

So my question for this thread is, who lives or has lived here in TV that was famous or well known, at least on a regional level? I remember a few being mentioned in the past, but I'm sure there must be more!
How about the most famous couple known around the world. I'm surprised everyone missed this. They appear in every Villages Christmas parade: Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus.
Also, several years ago there was a retired White House Chef living in The Villages. He was a long time Chef to several U.S. presidents. I think he might have been a dessert chef.
Then Lou Ferrigno's (The Incredible Hulk) wife was interviewed. I think her sister lives here. She said she wanted to move here but Lou was reluctant for some reason. And she didn't want to force the issue because, well, you know what happens when he gets angry.

A couple who has another home, I will just say, somewhere else, and also has a home in The Villages...had a room from their other home on the Television show, Million Dollar Rooms on HGTV.
The lovely thing about this place is that we have just ordinary folks of all kinds, all of an age, all who did something different for a living and for some it brought them fame and fortune for others it brought them security and wisdom and for all it brought them to THIS place.
Smart folks, I'd say.
We are getting so many new residents from what used to be considered the "posh" parts of Florida: Boca and West Palm and Marco Island.
We all live here like the rich and famous.

Nice. The Villages Daily Sun did a story about me a few years ago. (May 28, 2007) Cannot say that anyone recognized me or recognizes me all that much though. They also had a "big honking pic" but it was not on the front page.
Did get some nice comments from neighbors as well as various people at Doggie Doo Run Run.
Their sent photographer George Horsford seemed surprised that they were even doing a story.
This story by Mr. Gary Corsair was about my efforts to get a link to the Florida Victims Services Directory made from the websites of Lake, Sumter and Marion County public library systems. http://myfloridalegal.com/vicdirect.nsf/Fifth%20Judicial%20Circuit!OpenView I did get one at Lake County Public Library but they later took it out.
Cannot really see the drawbacks of having a very well informed set of citizens looking out for the rights/responsibilities of survivors of crimes as long as they know the limits of the legal system. Havng these links was part of the process of teaching these boundaries. Common sense can only go so much when it hits the bureaucratic wall.
Noticed some stories coming out of Hollywood often address some of these interesting issues like July 8, 2012's episode of Longmire entitled "The Worst Kind of Hunter". I will not go into it in case I spoil the plot for those who have not seen this one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Longmire_episodes
Also saw some recent episodes of the Boston, MA based show Rizzoli and Isles like "Welcome to the Doll House" that shed some light on these aspects of the US Justice System.

Been hoping to see some shots of Brandeis U. near Boston on Rizzoli & Isles. Some of their buildings have great views of the Boston skyline.
I had tried to do similar work all over the US as well as abroad from 1992 through 2002 or so but hit some serious hurdles around 2000 in and around Palm Harbor, FL which really slowed the work.
