Total of nine inches at my house in Springdale. I know it is kinda of frustrating to be stuck inside in paradise but we needed this so bad. We had been in a 5 year drought, this will help things a lot. I'm loving it even though I miss pickleball, water aerobics, walking and golf! I may be pulling my hair out by Friday! :-P

The cubit is a traditional unit of length, based on the length of the forearm. Cubits of various lengths were employed in many parts of the world in Antiquity

I agree. I bet the lakes and ponds still aren't up to there full level let alone the water table. There are plenty of indoor activities but I do miss my morning 10 mile bicycle ride.

Since we now know the length of a cubit, all we need are the plans for the ark and remember to tell the rabbits, only two.

Still haven't moved into my home in Forsyth Villas. Anyone know if there is any flooding there? So glad we bought flood insurance!

Almost atta boy.....out back landscaping is ruined. Mulch all over the side yard and washed down the road. The back neighbors water drains right behind our back pool deck and our landscaping back there is the "well" for all of the water. We are not Happinow! Hopefully the warranty department has an answer. Our new palm tree is leaning quite a bit due to the puddle of water that surrounds it. Ugh!

I'm not in TV now either, but very curious how my place may have "weathered" Debby. Sounds like it's variable, maybe dependent on where you sit in the drainage flow. Any info and updates are appreciated.

Did the installation of your landscaping alter the swale that was in place to drain the water? Sometimes landscape installers pay little attention to drainage already in place. Sure the warranty department will look at that possibility.

We had rain blow in under the window sill in front bedroom. A LOT of rain. This is the acid test for caulking. An easy fix for warranty. There was constant wind and rain hammering that side of house. Only place in our home with difficulty.Came in under the window but didn't wash interior wall, seeped in at carpet level. VERY wet. Glad I brought my bag of old towels for mop up.
Mulch washes are common with this much rain. Upwards of seven inches is a lot of rain in 24 hours. No one has said anything about flooding anywhere on here yet This forum is the eyes and ears of The Villages.
Palm trees that haven't had a chance to root can be a problem with the wind and rain we have had, but they too can be righted. May be why the developer doesn't put them in landscaping. They don't have much of a root ball.
Our pine straw stayed put.
Check in all folks everywhere in TV. So I don't have to get outa my jammies and ride around and see for myself, lol.

Going to do a "rideabout" this afternoon (unless weather prevents) -- from Mulberry to St. James. Will let people know how things look in general when I get back.

Two years ago we had rain in a very short time in double digits. There were areas of roadway that were underwater for an hour or so. The grading and drainage and overflow systems here are well thought out. No damage that I can remember with that super amount of rain then.
Sometimes new landscaping walls will act as "dams" and diverters and "holders" and send water the wrong way as Bogie said.
Another thing to think about with landscaping.
All this sand can be a real blessing when you get all this water in a short time.
Fortunately THIS much rain isn't a real common occurance.

So far, I believe the water drainage system is winning the war. During the continuous downpour there was some standing water between out houses but I think the grading was designed to carry it away from the house. The only damage I have seen so far is to the dead branches in the palm trees. I think a few palms might have gone down and will need replanting.
Last night I was thinking of you all. A lady was leaving Trivia and as she walked off she said something like, I can't believe how rude some people are that they would not step aside to let those of us who are not afraid of a little rain out. This was said as we were all waiting for someone to drive byand pick us up. There was a 2-3 foot clearing between us but that was not wide enough for her to open her golf umbrella and waltz out hitting us all in the face. :ohdear:
You will be proud to hear that I did not say any of the sarcastic answers that went through my mind. :icon_bored:

If you don't reside in TV full-time and don't have a neighbor to check on your house when your gone ,you may have a problem. If you ever considered using one of TV's excellent property management services, tropical storm Debby is all you would need to sign on.Luckily, Gracie is full-time and noticed the water leak before it did too much damage, others might not be so fortunate. What is your peace of mind worth?I know i might sound like an advertisement, but since i'm not in that business,i'm just stating a concern that has an easy solution for TV part-timers.

In Buttonwood area, 8 inches of rain since Saturday nite....needed to drain the pool a bit last nite to make room for more, but the streets and the grass took it well. No signs of flooding in our part of the neighborhood.

Actually, the landscapers helped with the drainage as we informed them of the poor drainage behind our house. They built up spots that were really low and sloped some areas to help guide the water out from the property. It's an issue with the way the house behind us is graded. We will see what kind of solution they come up with.

No water issues in Mulberry. The water hole on the 6th tee of Ashley Meadows is full, full, full and the golf course is flooded, but no concern to the houses near it. I actually saw the Mr. Sun for about two minutes this morning. I guess he needed to shine just to let us know he was still around.

Our neighbor's had the same kind of leak. Their front bedroom rug got pretty wet. I do realize that the rootball of the trees haven't had a chance to settle yet and expected it to not weather the storm well. What is concerning is that every time it rains, and since we've been here it rains a lot, that we will constantly have to redo our mulch. When I'm older I will not be able to care for it to that degree. We will probably have to take out the back landscaping and put in grass and a French drain somewhere to help channel the rain to an appropriate place. Thanks for the in site though.

Our house is partially up and the garage doors the last time we rec'd pictures were not installed so we are a bit worried that allot of rain went into the garages. We have a house in Sannibel. We also decided to take flood insurance as suggested by our agent for the first year or two. Hubby just said no pictures were sent as we usually get them every Monday. So he put a phone call into our real estate agent to check.

The retention pond near Palmer CC is the highest I've seen in 8 years. About 3' from the retaining wall on Riley 1st tee boxes.

Gracie, and those of you who got some leakage,
What direction were those windows facing? We are in Ohio right now, and do have neighbors checking our house, plus my daughter was there yesterday, but am still worried a little.
Gracie, you are right - that much rain in Ohio and we'd all mostly have swimming pools in our basements!

Took a quick trip to Market Square on Buena Vista and the Villages irrigation is on. They do this to lower levels in ponds that are too high.
Lots of branches down but the square is all cleaned up and beautiful.
We have a break in the rain now.
Going to the Town Square next in SS. Will report if I see anything interesting.

I have the same concerns. We are also building in Sanibel, roof and doors on, but garage doors still not in. Wondering about the rain going into garage. I also received and e-mail this morning from our photo guy, no pictures this week. Maybe I should check with our agent too? Curious what your agent says...

Has there been any reported flooding in any of the residential Villages?
graciegirl
06-25-2012, 02:05 PM
I think by now, someone would have reported flooding on this forum.
Please have someone check your east facing window(s), particularly the floor in front of them.
We had a LOT of water, our friend had a little. Both east facing windows only.
The wind was hurling the water sideways and if there was a tiny crack or area to get in, it did. Ours came in under the sill and behind the dry wall and soaked the carpet. Soaked..We have had many rains with nothing. But this was a lulu.
Warranty was here an hour after we called them. Window caulked or sealed or whatever they do. Carpet checked and fan on it.

Okay, have now traveled from St. James to Mulberry to Hacienda Hills to ... A few paths are swamped, but they are ones that are swamped with any heavy downpour. There were a few small branches on the ground this morning (picked up this afternoon). So far as I could tell, no real damage or issues anywhere. There were some power outages in Marion County.
Now, that being said, in reality this storm is more of a nuisance than anything else from what I can tell. There's been little lightning and the winds really haven't been half as bad as I've seen previously. So, unless it somehow gets much worse, I'd suggest we all relax and be thankful Florida is getting some sorely needed rain.

If we had this much rain in New York the beaches would be closed, because the water treatment plants can't handle the runoff and the untreated water goes into the L.I. Sound. Yechh
