View Full Version : Are you addicted to your smartphone?
We're in Chicago, visiting with our kids. This article appeared on my homepage this morning as I checked news, etc. on my IPad. Amazingly, I could relate.....my phone has become fused to my right hand it seems, especially since my kids both have IPhones. Guess it's less expensive than some other addictions.....;).

Yes. I get up in the morning, check the weather and read various newspapers on it. Ditched the land line a couple of years ago and use it exclusively for phoning. Keep my schedule on it. When I need to get up at a certain time in the morning, I now use it instead of my alarm clock because it's so easy to set an alarm. I text on it. Track storms on it. Listen to music on it. Play Suduko on it. Use various apps throughout the day on it.
Heck, my iPhone probably knows me better than I do.

You're my kind of friend....:bigbow:
It's such an easy device to use. The grand kids have iPods and grandma gets apps from them and they get apps from me. Last evening, as we dined at son's restaurant, the kids were recording short videos and we were using an FX app to "blow up"the restaurant.....hee, hee, hee! Grandparents are really just big kids with some funds....:1rotfl::1rotfl:

Verizon AT&T, etc hate people like me becuase all I want and need is a dumb phone. I am with Verizon and limited to a very nrrow selection of phones because I won't sign up for data. However folks like me are going to be forced into a data plan. If I was still working I would have a smartphone but I am not. I don't use my internet enough to ustify the monthly cost now. However, I can see the future for me and I am going to be forced to join the pack.

I am pathetic.....I have a laptop for work, a phone at work, a Blackberry issued by my company for phone and email. I now have consolidated by Blackberry for personal and business so can check calls, emails, calendars, tasks etc for both. I also have a Blackberry Playbook tablet that synchronizes all of that and I am posting this message from my personal MacBook.......I love it all and hate it at the same time.
I have Facebook and Twitter and now my company uses Salesforce.com which has "Chatter which is like Facebook for business.
I have LinkedIn too and too many passwords that make me dizzy.
Guess I might be a Technoholic and need to go to a Smartphone Anonymous meeting soon!!!

I'd have to say YES! We have 3 smartphones, 2 iPads and one Macbook Pro.
The smartphones get used frequently throughout the day.

We have Consumer Cellular. Love it. Nothing fancy. No contract. Cheap. Free phones. They use A t & T equipment. Great for people like me who like to use a telephone to talk to other people. Internet and messaging make me walk into walls and trip into fountains.

I am addicted to my IPad and playing cribbage on it. I wish, however, it would be smarter in the corrections it makes to mistyped words!
Bring it everywhere, books loaded, Internet, mail, Facebook ......

Pooh in Chicago...???? We're in Chicago!
I got my first smart phone almost 3 months ago -- based on jojo's recommendation -- got a Samsung Galaxy SII. Now the SIII will be going on sale very soon, but Sprint won't let me upgrade for 20 months :(. But I really like the phone. When I was in TV earlier this month I used the phone's GPS app when my TomTom could not find a couple of addresses in TV. I use the phone a lot to check the weather, look up recipes, listen to music and to watch the news. Haven't tried to make a deposit to my bank account yet, but Citibank's app. lets you take a photo of the front and back of a check to make a deposit. Chase Bank also advertises this feature. I also bought a "preowned" first generation iPad in March that serves my needs quite well.
memason and Pooh, hope you are enjoying the great Chicago weather. If you are still in Chicago on Thursday, it is supposed to get near 100 degrees! Second driest June in Chicago history -- we have had less than 1/2 inch of rain since June 1.
