Sprinklers on Villages golf courses and road medians running full force this morning up in our neck of the woods. What gives? We get warning letters and higher rates when we use too much irrigation water. Does TV pay for all the water they needlessly use for irrigation, especially after the magnitude of last night's storm? I think not!

Ummmm.....all the retention ponds are far above normal levels. Do you really want their water to come up into yards and homes?????

Had no idea that that was the reason for running all the sprinklers, hence the question. Interesting... thank you.

Should OP have responded with an apology after his outburst?

Hypocrits (hypocrites)was a little strong. I think the "thank you" is enough.

That's the value of this board, somebody always seems to have the answer to any situation.Sharon asked me why the sprinklers were running this morning, on the golf course next to our home.I had to research her question, since i wasn't sure why they were on in a rain storm . She has learned over the years when i'm full of bull or actually know what i'm talking about, which is very rare.:024:

If you are watering the wet saturated ground with the pond waters, How does it absorb? Wouldnt the water just run back into the pond? And create more runoff problems?

This Villages' ground soaks up a lot of water in many areas because of how sandy it is.

Talked to a lady with Sumter County emergency preparedness at the hurricane expo and she said TV had the best water management anywhere. She said if there was flooding rain TV was the place to be anywhere in this area.

I have faith in their systems. I am absolutely in awe of their systems. This is OUR town. Why are people so quick to be critical?

I have to believe that it really does look too good to be true and people are waiting to hear that they made a bad decision. Funny about human nature.

The water used to irrigate the golf courses and common landscaped areas is reclaimed water, first, pond water second. They water even though it is raining because the there is no storage capacity for quantity of wastewater produced on a daily basis. http://www.sodsolutions.com/pdf/villages_daily_sun.pdf

"hypocrits" was a spelling error - my bad.

As for being critical before knowing the answers...what can I say? It seemed really counter-intuitive to run sprinklers after such a big rain. I'm a skeptic. Yes, TV is a wonderful place to live. I just don't accept everything I'm told about it.

You must know by now that there are folks on TOTV that will pounce on any little thing. Don't worry about them. Ignore them. Next the cheer leaders will roll out in force. Ignore them too. The ones to reckon with are the girls posse. They will squirt gun you into submission quickly and you will go along peaceful like. :crap2:

Easy for YOU to be so cavalier. It isn't your town. YET. But when you live here, you will love it like most of us do. I can just tell that about you. AND you TOO will be a cheerleader.

You just wait and see. Where is that evil laugh smiley????...........:icon_twisted::loco::evil6::e vil6::evil6:

And I am not a lady. Girl is fine, if you have to call me something. I go by princess at home.

even if only 10 pct soaks in the ground thats 10pct less in the pond, you are not adding water you are redistributing the water that 'ranoff' quickly into the ponds.

In a couple of days the sun will be out burning up lawns and you'll be watering you lawn. It don't take long for a lawn to need water no matter how much it got.

Just received an email from the district:

e-Notification
Subject: What's Happening - Special Edition
Date: 6/26/2012

IRRIGATION FOLLOWING RECENT RAINFALL

Following many recent inquiries from concerned residents the District would like to address the irrigation currently running on golf courses and public areas througout The Villages. This practice is necessary to minimize or prevent the possibility of flooding due to recent heavy rainfall and help lower the rising retention pond levels which collect stormwater runoff.

We hope this information addresses residents' concerns regarding the running irrigation.

I guess I'm a tad late in trying to set the situation to rest! :D

The many retention ponds throughout TV are the source for the water used to keep the public areas, fairways and whatnot appropriately irrigated. When we have the occasional abundance of Mother Nature's water (like the last couple of days), there is an admittedly small chance that the retention ponds will overflow, flooding neighborhoods and causing a whole lot of undesireable negative publicity!

To preclude any such chance, the system turns on the irrigation systems to keep the ponds' level down.

As strange as it is to be driving along in the pouring rain, all the while observing the irrigation system working in full force, there is a reasonably logical explanation for it!

I learned this years ago, when there was no TOTV and few places to find out such stuff!
