I was reading some of the post on the sink holes created by the recent storm. I also googled sink holes in the villages and found several articals. Are these common and who is responsible for the repairs?

Sink holes are common to Florida, some area's more than others...Pasco county comes to mind. There have been instances in the past of sinkholes in TV. They do occur, one a day-no and will happen again in the future.
Like many other perils facing a homeowner, it would be your responsibilty to repair any damage. Thats why we have insurance.

getting coverage is rare,, at least for sink holes,,, you can get catastrophic damage insurance,, the hand writing is on the wall,, wake up!!! the companies are not in the business to pay claims at a losing rate,,, that is why they have taken drastic measures to limit there untold liability in this area. the next thing to happen will be the lending institutions will not take mortgages on the property here,,, but the bank owned by the developer will be the only one that will have to accommodate the buyers, who have drank the koolade with $$ burning a hole in there pocket!,, any day i bet you see the new MORRIS INSURANCE AGENCY! gotta keep the place afloat! this place could look like swiss cheez if we keep getting the sink holes with this packed density of homes here! hang on toto i think were in for a real ride,,, to answer you question ,, YOU BET WE GOT SINKHOLES HERE! i dont care what happens all over Floridia,,, just here in my high priced little bubble home!

I wonder if before one buys a lot in the near future a new requirement will be to have a ground sonar and sinkhole certified inspection. Just thinking?

6 PM (eye witness) Channel 9 reported a dozen sink holes in The Villages. I checked their Web site and most of the pictures are of sink holes on golf courses. I think I saw one house that was affected. Does anyone know how many homes had damage.:ohdear:

Yikes, those photos are really something. :faint: It is very worrisome to read these many threads about the sinkholes. II can only imagine how people who are going through this situation are feeling.

Hernando County, he said, has the dubious distinction of being the "sinkhole capital of Florida," followed closely by Pasco County.
A huge rate hike proposed by Citizens Property Insurance Corp. recently prompted public outrage not only in Hernando County but throughout the area.
People living along the coast of Hernando County were poised to see rates go up 323 percent, from $1,356 to $5,734.
The remainder of the county would have seen an average 471 percent increase, from $1,084 to $6,192. SNIP....

As a point of clarification re: 'catastrophic ground collapse' - - -
Insurance companies are actually required to provide this coverage as part of any homeowners policy in FL:
627.706 - Sinkhole insurance catastrophic ground cover collapse definitions. - 2010 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate (http://www.flsenate.gov/laws/statutes/2010/627.706)
