Does anybody know if there is a forum or group for Democrats on TOTV?? I could make a lot of wisecracks here, but I won't. :icon_wink:

There is a group of Democrats on TOTV on the Political Forum. Many of them seem to live outside the Villages, though.

I happened to be playing golf with my foursome today, and it turned out all four of us are Democrats. We really enjoyed finding that out. I suspect that with the influx of retirees from the northeast, NY, NJ, etc, the percentage of Democrats in The Villages is increasing. I attend meetings of the Villages Democrats from time to time, and found it to be interesting and worthwhile and I did enjoy meeting people of the same political beliefs.

Thanks to everybody who responded...glad to know I'm not alone.
And to the Moderator...I DID look to see if there was a political forum...apparently I missed it on the drop down menu at the bottom of the page. Would it be possible for you to give me a link to the political forum page, please?

I will be joining you guys. For now I will only be vacationing in Fernandina when our home is done but I can be counted. My husband teases me all the time about being a minority in TV. I'm from Northern VA, via NJ, via Israel.

Democrat here. I live in "The Village".
Love to see all these Democrats. I stay away from the political forum though, found it too cut throat.

DebZ... The TOTV political forum is opt-in, you have to proactively join it.
Over in the far left colum is a section called Site Navigation. Within that is a link that says "join political forum" click on that, just one time, and you will begin seeing the political forum posts and can join in the often free-wheeling discussions.

Look down the left hand side and you will see Site Navigation and a link to join the Political forum. You have to opt in and you can opt out if it gets too brutal.
It can be a tough forum sometimes.

Mine is on the "Site Navigation" section. 2nd one down. It says "Join the Political Board".
I am of the Democrat persuasion. Have been since registering to vote in Reno, Nevada back around 1977. And, for now, I do live in the Villages and have since June 2005.

I'm another North Eastern Democrat hiding in the shadows of a very vocal Republican neighborhood!
As my other half says - never discuss politics, religion or sex!

To paraphrase a phrase, are you prepared to be foiled, labeled and mutilated?

Agree with Pturner and others. You need a tough hide to post on the TOTV Political Forum.

Thanks to all for the warnings about the Political Forum....was thinking I might want to just watch it for a while...but I'm beginning to think it will end up infuriating and frustrating me as much as reading the editorials in the Daily Repu...er Sun does. LOL!

I just reviewed the comments regarding the formation of the new tea party club..I find it interesting that there was NO warning from the moderator to that group regarding the need to keep the discussion NON POLITICAL with threat of moving the thread to the political forum...

Exactly what was stated by any person of "that group" that warranted a threat from the "moderator?" I've read the thread more than once and found no cause for any threats.

For years growing up I witnessd a Democratic father in some heavy debates with his boyhood Republican friends. At times it got so heated that I thought these guys were going to start throwing punches. But they didn't. No they finished what they had to say and then the brewski started flowing and friends resumed as friends.
Its not that way anymore. Why? I have my thoughts on the subject but probably should hold them for the political forum. Folks live and let live. Life is far too short to hold grudges

I don't know but politics seem to be more than politics as we age. I don't recall that it ever entered my mind as a way to choose friends but it seems to be that way here more often than not.
As many of you know the population of The Villages is overwhelmingly conservative voters, and The Daily Sun has a political slant. All papers do. I don't know why anyone finds that surprising unless in the area that they moved from the slant was the other direction.
I like to get the word out because it is often the reason for discontent when someone moves here to find that they are way in the minority.

Actually, the last figures I saw for registered voters in the 4 Villages counties (Marion, Sumter, and Lake, showed percentages of around 48-49% Democrats and Others vs. 51% Republicans. I don't call that an overwhelming number of conservative voters. Democrats are in the minority, but not by much. But I do agree that the Sun has a distinct conservative slant. Many, many people comment on that, and consequently choose to read other newspapers that offer a more balanced view. We read the Orlando Sentinel, and just check the Daily Fun for local news and sports scores.

The OP's question has been asked and answered. This thread is beginning to meander into more political discussion so it will be closed.
Please feel free to continue the discussion in the political forum.
