I was looking at homes on TV site and was wondering how do consigment shops work?
Can you bring in furniture to sell and then buy furniture from them. I just saw a home that was perfect for me but the furniture was missing some items so I would need to buy additional pieces.
What was the best thing you bought at a consigment shop?

Bargains & Treasures is a consignment store just south of CR 466, East of CR 301. They will take your furniture on consignment, but only if it is saleable and in excellent condition. They will sell it for a percentage of the purchase price. If it doesn't sell in three months, they will donate it to a Charity or you can pick it up.
We furnished our first Villages home from Bargains & Treasures. Much of their inventory is furniture that was purchased at Southern Lifestyles. But the good stuff sells immediately! So if you're picky, you need to spend a lot of time there! (Trucks unload new incoming furniture in the afternoon).
There are other resale furniture shops on CR 441 that will buy your furniture from you.

Barefoot is completely right as usual. Our first home we added many nice pieces from Bargains and Treasures. They are a little cheaper during the nine months of the year that isn't high season. Right now the prices are excellent.
I am told that they pick up on average ten loads a day and believe me they must sell that quantity too.The stuff is different each time you go. I love that it recyles good furniture. Many people move here and decide on a different look and Bargains and Treasures is a good way to get rid of stuff and earn money on it too. They took several things from us and a month or two later, we got a check in the mail. People of our age usually take very good care of things and like Bare says they won't take it unless it is in excellent condition. They have everything; tables and chairs,(kitchen and dining room) upholstered furniture, lamps, side tables, bar stools, file cabinets, decorative accessories, large pictures and small pictures, mirrors,..a huge selection.
They are on 466 past the high school but before you get to 301, on the same side of the road. When you see the sign ALLIGATOR MEAT turn in...it is in a strip mall behind that house.
I like to go there even though we are furnished...just amazes me the pretty things they have.

We found Bargain & Treasurers good, but we also liked Neerlee New (http://site.neerleenewfurnishings.com/) and Furniture Barn Consignment (http://furniturebarnconsignment.com/), both in Fruitland Park to be just as good, friendlier to work with and we bought the bulk of our furniture from those two locations. The owner of Neerlee New even dropped off at our home a smaller item at no charge on his way to his home here in Hadley because there wasn't enough room left for it in our vehicle to take it ourselves!
BTW, Neerlee New is not consignment if you're selling. They buy their inventory from people, but I feel you're definitely better off using consignment for selling.

I have used BARGAINS AND TREASURES to sell things when I first moved to The Villages. Now that I am LEAVING The Villages--I was wondering the best way of selling quality furniture--only five years old---from Southern Lifestyles.....unfortunately, it was expensive--and I don't want to take it with me. Is Bargains and Treasures the only gig in town--or do they have others now? Do you think ads in the paper are a waste of money?
Thanks,
Lynn Fitzgerald

You should try selling it in the TOTV classified section. I sold a couple of pieces of really nice furniture on that site. Make sure you download a picture because that really helps.

Are the prices listed at these consignment shops fixed or are they negotiable?

Try Craigslist craigslist: ocala classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events (http://ocala.craigslist.org/)

The lovely Diane and I have sold several things (large and small) through B & T. They tell you how much they will get for it and give you 55% of the sale price.
The only thing that I didn't like was they give you an eight-hour window of when they will pick the stuff up at your house...between 8am and 4pm.
But they do get top dollar and they do know how much things will sell for and they do sell a lot of stuff...although we have never seen anything there we were interested in buying
