Hi all,
We bought our house on June 18th and will close on July 27th. After all of the mover headaches, we should be moved in on the 30th. We are moving from Montgomery AL to the Village of St. James. We have visited The Villages 6 times over the last couple of years and we also have several friends that are residents. So, we feel we have a fairly good grasp on what we are doing. We found the floor plan we love about 2 yrs ago and have been waiting for my official, forever, retirement. We sold our home here at just about the same time, so we were able to press on with the next stage of our lives.
That is probably more info than you want to see in a 1st hello, but ............
We will be going through what all of you have already done, but we do look forward to getting settled in.

Closed on our home in Hadley almost a month ago - today was the first day I felt like I was home and not overwhelmed by logistics of everything. Might have had something to do with my first experience at the driving range. I think I might just like this golf that everyone else here is so obsessed with!

1st - thanks to all of the welcome posts!

2nd - gomoho - you came to TV without a love for golf? There are many things to do, for sure, BUT !!!! ???

My DW (Darling Wife) and I share a love of golf. She loves tennis and I love big old RC planes. So we have quality time together as well as some personal time apart. We plan to explore pickle ball and .......?

We visited/rented for the last few yrs, 7 visits total, with the last one in Dec, we did some solo visits to the "neighborhoods". We found one area that looked pretty good, we thought it was Tamarind, it was not. Saw a CYV that fit our "plan", and went to see if the door was ... uhm ... open. Yep, unlocked. It was the floor plan we liked, mostly finished. We paid NO attention to the address. Months later, we did a over-the-phone purchase followed up with a visit to do papers, and guess what! That was the same house! Meant to be, eh?

Congratulations on your new home. We too are closing on 7/27, which also happens to be our 10th wedding anniversary - must be meant to be... Unfortunately, we are not retired yet, so we will be renting our home for a couple years until our retirement. Enjoy your new home and the fun and excitement that TV will briing you.

Thank you! Are you doing a face-to-face closing, or like us, via overnight FedEx? We are having the movers pack on the 28th, load on the 29th and unload on the 30th at TV!

Built? Maybe I mean shipped from "who knows where".

We bought American Drew and were told the factory will start building when they received the order. Same story from Lazy Boy. I haven't researched where either factory is located.

Can't wait till I somewhere to sit and play. Did I say play, I mean LAY :0

We will be knee deep in boxes, and my DW (Darling Wife) will have us both so busy that a decent meal will be out of the question. She loves Papa John pizza, so that will probably be our 1st "meal" after the moving in starts. We have our phones, but I wonder if there will be a phone book in the house. I doubt it, new construction! And if I look up the phone numbers now I'll have just enough time and confusion to lose them in a box!

The closest Pappa Johns is in Lady lake on the corner of 441 and Rolling Acres road. We get pizza from there all the time and it is excellent!
Just a few more days and you'll be here!

Thanks for the offer. We are not too sure when we will arrive and with 2 pups in tow, and having driven for 8+ hrs, we would NEVER think of meeting someone for the 1st time like that!
DW says that we will probably get there late enough, on a Sunday, that everything will be closed. Might have to stop at a drive through someplace before we enter those gates!

Yes, you can call for the number even though that particular day I'll be in Michigan. Coming back the next day. Now, I hate to say it, but if you had an I-phone you could store all kinds of numbers in your phone! ha ha I know what the chances of that are!

We bought in St. James. We close on Friday, only 4 more days. We juggled the movers and they are packing on Thursday, loading on Friday morning. So we will hit the road and be there Friday evening sometime. So that puts us in our home 2 days earlier than we thought we would be!

Well, we have survived the move from hell. Lots-o-damage, but what the heck ... just stuff. With one exception, something of my Fathers that cannot be repaired or easily replaced.
BUT, we are here, all of the boxes empty and gone, golf cart was delivered, new furniture delivered, pictures hung, almost done! Whew. We even got in a quick 9 holes of golf the other day. Only things left are the lanai kick-out, landscape work, and a water softener. But I won't be doing any of that! Shoot, all it takes is a credit card or a checkbook. :icon_wink:

Loooong story, best told over a cold beverage. We used a "local" mover that came highly recommended, and they were not cheap.
After 7 visits over 5 yrs, we were really ready to get here.
