Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector

Has anyone had problems with their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors?My neighbors detectors are beeping(4 beeps),that I believe is the carbon monoxide sensor. They will be away for 3 weeks. There should not be any fumes,in the house as there is no natural gas lines or any motors running. Should these detectors be replaced?

Check the battery. Even though they are hardwired, there is also a battery.

It's telling you it needs a new 9 volt battery!

If replacing the battery with a new/fresh alkaline battery doesn't fix the beeping, then it's time for a new device (such things have defined probable life expectancies). Our CO detector recently started beeping periodically after I'd just put a new battery in it about 3-4 months before. New battery didn't resolve the issue so time for a new one!

As recommended to us by redwitch, go to Ace Hardware - they carry the exact brand and models installed by the builder. We looked elsewhere - couldn't find them. Ace had exactly what we needed. Not necessarily inexpensive - but the exact one is what we wanted.

They're easy to replace.

Several of our neighbors and we have had the same problem. We called the 1-800 number on the back of the unit - they instructed us through various steps to take and when none of them solved the problem the company sent us a brand new detector. Worth the call!

Good point as they do come with a warranty! I had to skip that step as we were only going to be in TV for a short while - I wanted to get it resolved before we left.

I was checking a house for friends who went North for a couple of months. He turned off most of the circuit breakers....including the ones the detectors were connected to. So, didn't take long running just off the battery for them to start chirping.

Make sure they didn't turn off the circuit breakers before you start replacing batteries.

Thanks,but I did replace the batteries and the curcuit breakers are all on. Still getting those 4 beeps.
