That is right, rnj4983. For some reason, I thought Gomer was dead.

What a great show. I loved the Darlings and Ernest T. I cry every time I see the episode where Opie shot the bird.

I especially remember Andy from the movie "No Time for Sargents!" where he played a naive, stubborn, literally minded hillbilly called Pvt. Will Stockdale, USAF.

The scene I'll never forget is where the Sgt. ordered him to clean and prepare the latrine for a VIP inspection. Pvt Stockdale went all out in the preparation, but went a little overboard in one respect.

When the VIP was brought into the latrine for the inspection and the order of "attention" was given, Will also gave his version of a solute to the VIP. He stepped on a pedal that was wired to all the toilet seats, and in unison all the seats snapped up in salute! You can only imagine the expression of his sargent's face! :22yikes:

I can't watch that episode where Opie shot the bird. It was good series - I loved Don Knots especially when his eyes would bug out. I can still picture it and laugh. Yes, it is a sad day in Mayberry.

It was "Goober" George Lindsey who recently passed away.

Andy was one of my favorite actors. He did some great comedic acting, and serious stuff too. We can never forget Mayberry, and my wife and I enjoyed watching "Matlock."

Andy and Don Knotts were great acting together.

How sad. Like so many others, his show was a part of growing up. I am whistling the theme song in my head as I type this.

I believe there was a line from the bird episode where Opie stated after he released the baby birds, "it seems so empty now". Andy replied, "but aren't the skies so nice and full"
And isn't heaven one person "fuller" now......

I immediately went online and bought a copy of it since I haven't seen it in years. From the parts shown on the news it looks like Barney's part and Gomer's came out of that movie. I'll know better when I watch it in a few days. Don Knotts was also in it as I recall.

I too had a crush on Helen Crump! I guess we all did!

I have an old 78 rpm record of Andy reciting Swan Lake. Now, where did I put that?

I just found the following info on the web.
Jim Nabors is 82, living in Hawaii, and is the last adult cast member.
Of course, Ron Howard (Opie) is doing well.

Here are the ladies still around:
Betty Lynn, who played Barney's girlfriend Thelma Lou, currently lives in Mount Airy, N.C. It was Andy Griffith's birthplace and widely believed to be the inspiration for Mayberry. She makes monthly appearances on the town's Andy Griffith Museum on the third Friday of the month.

Elinor Donahue, who played the town pharmacist and Andy's girlfriend in the show's first season, continues to work occasionally. She most recently appeared on several episodes of the soap opera "The Young and the Restless" in 2010 and 2011. She lives with her third husband, retired Broadway actor and dancer Lou Genevrino, in the retirement community Sun City in Palm Desert.

Maggie Peterson, who played Charlene Darling in several episodes of the series, married jazz musician Gus Mancuso and settled in Las Vegas, where she worked for many years as a location manager for film and TV. She's a regular attendee of the Marshfield Cherry Blossom Festival in Marshfield, Mo.
