So we are staying in the Hampton Inn until closing on our house this Thursday, and the discussion turned to where we wanted to eat tonight. I was in the mood for Prime Rib at Outback, and Sue was in the mood for swordfish at Lighthouse. So we compromised and went to Lighthouse. Guess what! They have Prime Rib and it was GREAT! We were both very happy campers. :024:

I love their butterfish too. They have delicious pineapple tartar sauce that is perfect on their sweet little scallops.

You can have it at home! I liked it so much I went looking for BUTTERFISH to cook. No one at the fish markets knew what I was talking about. I had seen butterfish in NC but it was nothing like Lighthouse. One guy at a fish market told me he thought butterfish came from the method of cooking rather than type of fish and recommended I use Swaii for the fish. I dredged it in a little Seasoned flour and very lightly fried it on both sides, then put it in a 350 oven for another 10 minutes, took it out, poured melted butter over it and served it over a veggie-pineapple rice! It was so good and very similar to Lighthouse!
I also made a mango-pepper salsa and served over the top.

Not meaning to rain on your parade, but stay away from the tuna wrap---very soggy!

I've always been afraid to try the butterfish at the Lighthouse because of the rumored side effects. I think I read about them on TOTV. Have any of you butterfish aficianados had the side effects after eating it? Are the side effects real -- or are they a myth?
Just fishing for facts,
Judy
PS: I love the fried oysters at the Lighthouse!

What after or side affect?
Had it at Bonifay and it was really tasty.

Yes.
I searched TOTV & I can't find any reference to it, so maybe I'm dreaming that I read it here? Maybe, in the interest of science, I should order the butterfish and see if what they say is true.

The Lighthouse butterfish is rumored to be an aphrodisiac. Just ask Mr. Midnight.

We have not eaten at the Lighthouse in a couple of years, have they changed for the better? I did not care for their food then, but now? New menu, new management?
Does anyone know what butter fish really is? If it is Swaii, then it is just a type of farm raised catfish from places like Thailand. Catfish.

You folks had me convinced to give Lighthouse a try until someone compared it to Bonefish. After two trys I find bonefish offer poor quaity food meager portions but high prices

IMHO, there is no comparison other than they both specialize in fish/seafood. Entirely different menus, atmosphere, etc. Not saying one is better than the other, that's an opinion based on personal tastes. But they are very different in many ways.

Could someone be so kind as to post where "The Lighthouse" is? I'm not a big seafood person, but we may want to try this place.

For what it's worth, the mental picture of my wife jumping off the dresser instantly made me think she would then hit her head on the new ceiling fan I installed.....I'm thinking that would spoil the mood......

The Lighthouse Restaurant is at Lake Sumter Landing, right on the lake. Good food.

OK - so I've been reading about the 'butterfish' for a few days now. Today I took my guests to the Lighthouse. I've been there before and never been disappointed but then again never thought of the place as a GOT TO visit.
Anyway, I had the butterfish - it was ok but again I doubt I'd ever order it again. Don't get me wrong, if you think you'd like it you probably will but not necessary a 'crave it' dish. My guest had the blackened talapia and it looked great and he ate it all.
Now the lobster bisque at Cane Garden on the other hand is a MUST HAVE in my opinion IF you're going there.
