Its not 106 today in lower Michigan but it is almost 10 degrees warmer than TV!
I got an email from a friend in Maryland this morning. She has been out of electricity from last week's storm for 7 days and they don't expect to get it back until atleast tomorrow night at 11 PM! After much searching, she found a hotel that would take her and her two dogs! But, she is growing tired of that. Luckily she can work from the hotel.
I felt much better about our heat when I heard from her. At least, we have air conditioning!

The usual question from northerner folks is "how can you live in FL? Aren't the summers hot?" My standard answer is that our experience has been that the north has been ALOT hotter than we've had it! BUT the last couple of summers ALL over the country have had strange weather. Freaky even!!!!

I just read an article at weather.com that record highs (across the US) during the last 30 days has reached 4250 and counting. Feel bad for those of you dealing with this heat and no power. Been thinking about heading south just to escape these temps

104 Degrees in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin!
Used to live in Menomonee Falls a long time ago (most of 1960s), then had girlfriend from Oconomowoc when I lived in Minneapolis, MN back in the late 1980s.

Three days in a row here in the Chicago area with 100 plus temps. I heard on the news that this has only happened twice before and they have been keeping records since the early 1800's here! We had a number of deer on our street the other night and people have been putting out tubs of water for the wildlife. Also, for the first time in my town's history we have a TOTAL ban on watering. We are situated along the shore of Lake Michigan and get our water from there. The lake level has dropped and we need to be careful with our supply as many other towns purchase their water from us. Today we expect 103 or better, tomorrow perhaps 100 and then finally a break! But you all had Debby and sinkholes, so who's to complain?

Seven heat related deaths here in the Chicago area so far. Another 100 plus day today, but a north/northeast wind off the lake late in the day which should cool us off! So many outdoor activities here in the summer and they are now warning to keep pets indoors except for 5 minutes to do their business! The crops are dying downstate, cattle suffering, etc, etc, etc.
Please be safe and don't overdo in this weather. After all, us snowbirds have TV to look forward to! Take care everyone!

Still smokin' hot here in central OH. We went to a friend's place this afternoon for an outdoor 4th of July party - 102 degrees, full sun, very little breeze, and moderate humidity. A number of people stayed inside!!!
The saddest part is that there are still people up this-a-way without electric service. Per AEP Ohio (the service provider that covers a lot of OH and other states as well), they've restored power to 94% of the 660,000 affected properties, ie. there are 40,000 people still having a rough go of it. I can't imagine - - -

The heat wave ends in Chicago around 4 this afternoon! We did get over 100 again, but south of the city. I believe it will be your way tomorrow, Bill!! 75 degrees at 10 PM! The birds are flying, the squirrels romping and people out enjoying themselves. Electricity restored and life is good!

It's finally cooling off here in Wisconsin. I've never seen such dry conditions. The grass looks like hay. They're talking about a possible total restriction on watering. I guess it's better for the grass to let it go dormant for now. I'm missing the summer storms......I'm sure we'll still see them......at least I hope so.
