This is really a war on producers versus non producers but never the less a very good summary of finances for baby boomers in retirement.

I guess I am confused about your first statement... Producers vs Non Producers? When my parents retired they surely didn't retire with a million bucks to invest. Does that mean, in your opinion, they were non producers?

My siblings and I would disagree... Out of 9 kids, 7 went to college, we include 3 medical professionals, 3 teachers and 2 engineers. The offspring of that group include 5 doctors and 4 graduates of Ivy League schools. I could go on..... My parents were definately working class who made it to the middle class and now, as a family, we are better for that.

my parents didn't retire with anything close to 1 million dollars but it is a different world today and 1 million dollars is still not enough, your parents did well for you and your siblings, hopefully you have saved enough to live out your retirement years in comfort, that's my point, not talking about our parents, I am talking about us!

The article has made crystal clear in what manner specifically a President's idealogy have on their well being. We are 3 three years post recession and unemployment is higher, investment income non existent and a fiscal cliff approching that will send us to hell . The Fed already holds 65% of our Treasury obligation and so another QE exacerbates the shell game they are playing in favor of gaining political points.

I believe we all need a safety net beneath us... Something that can lift us up when we fall. Not a lifetime but at least something....

There but for the grace of God.....

The Non producers get the money from the producers, so the non producers giving people back part of the producers money does not help much, if the money was not taken in the first place the producers could spent their own money however they like, this would create more jobs and jump start the economy. Remember the government taking the money then giving the money to someone else is very inefficient and does not create anything. Just my opinion.

i know exactly where you are coming from - so my next question is this - if the non-producers did not provide the government services they do provide for the producers [and in return get some of the producers $ for doing so] - do you really think that there are non-govt entities that would provide the same services?...and provide them as efficiently for less $? if they could - why aren't they doing that in competition with govt and putting govt services out of business?

isn't it true that govt does the job that the private sector doesn't want to do? if we did not have a dept of defense or police departments would we be protected by private bands of mercenaries? who would enforce the laws made by congress?

Basically, that sounds like the war lords and pirates of Somalia. Is that what you want your country to become?

UPS and Fed Express are putting the post office out of business except we continue to lose 8 billion per year in the Post Office, the private sector will always do things better and cheaper! We need a strong defense and we need local education, local fire fighters and police but can't think of anything else!
