Seems as though the Department of Education is finally taking action on all those unruley children that the NEA union teachers have to put up with.

That article was from 2010 and the guns were replacements. It was not a new policy for their Federal law enforcement officers to carry weapons. Look at the link and you will see that the OIG's got law enforcement officer status to carry weapons back in 2003. http://www.ignet.gov/pande/standards/agleguidelines.pdf

And the Department of Education needs a law enforcement agency. What do we have the DEA, FBI, NSA, BP, Secret Service and some other alphbet soup agencies that are armed. Really, wasting taxpayer money for shotguns for the Department of Education.
That should even upset you just a little.

The Answer Sheet - Education Department buying 27 shotguns (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/answer-sheet/education-secretary-duncan/ed-department-buying-27-shotgu.html)...of the city of Lady Lake's purchase of a couple dozen semi-automatic AK 47-type assault rifles a couple years ago. I think they got one for every patrol officer. Believe it or not, a federal grant helped them buy these expensive weapons.
When asked why he needed assault weapons with a range of 1,000 yards, the Lady Lake police chief answered, "There are a lot of veterans living over in The Villages and most of them are armed. We want to be able to out-gun 'em in any sort of standoff that might occur."
Yikes! School kids are one thing, but well-trained and well-armed old guys having senior moments is an altogether different problem!
