when we need as a country to face this square on.

.....Food Stamps have increased 70% since 2007 and the government has been advertising for people to sign up, AND now are advertising in the media in Spanish.

.....There is an ongoing debate right now in the house where Republicans want to cut the funding for this program by 16 Billion over 10 years.

This is obviously at cross puproses, one advertising to grow it, and one who wants to cut it and they fight on. This is part of a farm bill that passed the senate.

Without even going into the issue itself, I do not think there is anyone who doesn't think we need to cut spending in this country. What happens when we talk about the big things.

We denfinately need to cut spending, but not Food Stamps. Food stamps are needed for the children of mothers who could not afford an abortion.

Sure, cutting spending is a good idea. Not too many would disagree with that.

Bucco only speaks to cutting food stamps - which does have the effect of making people go hungry. I have some other ideas posted below to consider.

How about a straight percentage cut across the board for the Federal agencies of around 5% in their budgets? Add in somewhere around 25% cut in crop subsidies for things like sugar, peanuts, corn, oats, and wheat. Cut about 25% from Congressional staffs and office expenses.

Federal conventions have been happening in places like Las Vegas or Orlando for years and years. Those are a total waste of money. With modern telenetworking capibilities, there is no reason for anyone not to participate fully and still not have to leave their home city. Government travel should be used only for the most necessary time and must be done at coach fare with no exception.

Reduce foreign aid to countries like all African countries, Isreal, unfriendly countries toward us by at least 50%.

Bring home all the US forces in Germany. WWII has been over since 1945. They are not needed any longer there.

Janmcn also suggests cutting subsidies to "big oil" after their record profits last year.

Just saved a whole lot of money.

How about cutting all those subsidies to big oil as they make record profits year after year?

Why not just do as the Constitution says. Let the states take care of all the things that the Federal Government has taken over that really belong to the states.

all excellent suggestions now please all of you write to your representatives (gags me every time) and Obama and demand they do something.

What is the worst outcome that could happen if Obama personally took on all your suggestions and he he gets stone walled by congress (yes I mean BOTH houses)....he would at least be recognized for taking the LEAD....and then he could use his ever present primary mode of blaming others for no progress.

The reason he will never be put in such a position is he would have to take the initiative, the lead. These are positions of personal risk, hence it has never happened and will not happen.

Too bad the excellent suggestions are ignored by the current administration....except for Bain....you know why? No personal risk involved for Obama....see the difference? Do ya?

btk, how right you are. Its to bad that this country has not had any leadership since the passage of the 17th Amendment. That is when the states lost all control of what the Federal Government can and can not do. Then in 1913 with the passage of the Federal Reserve even the government lost control of itself.

And the only folks to blame are, look in the mirror. That's right it is WE THE PEOPLE.

You cannot cut subsidies or raise taxes on phantom job creators. :yuck:
