We were having coffee in our lanai yesterday at about 5:30am. All was dark and quiet. We saw a rather shadowy dog-like figure cross the street going away from us, but the profile looked more slinky, and we both thought it might not be a dog at all. Are there coyotes around here?

You have got to be kidding me! There are animals in TV they dont bother anyone during the daylite hours. I have seen some coyotes on golf courses. They were few and far between. Snakes, in 3 years I have seen 3. Gators seen many , but they have all been in the retention ponds. Most wild beings are nocturnal, I am not anymore.

:wave:While playing Southern Star about noon, a fox walked right past our forsome and showed no fear as it went to the heavy brush just past us. I have seen many before but not this close. About two months ago I had a coyote walk across Canal street from the yards north of Truman Rec Ctr.. this was 8 in the morning. So much for nocturnal. As for snakes, at least 4 in my yard. :crap2:

There are lots of creatures at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.Cousin Lester visited just last week. He's known as the Creature from the Black Lagoon. The guy who lives there only turns into a wolf at night just like a million other guys. His real name is Sam Dracula.

I was walking my dog at night a few months ago and saw what I thought was a stray dog, but now that I read this, I think is was a coyote. Luckly my dog didn't see it and bark! I wonder if it would have run away, or come up to fight?

yes, there are coyotes. I was dog sitting for a neighbor--took the dog out on a leash around 1:00 a.m.----he alerted me to something coming down the road---I looked---a shaggy dog coming down the street----"it" stopped when it saw us----went through neighbor's yards. I had just seen the Twilight triology with my granddaughter----was kind of shook up!!! My husband rides his bike each morning early and has seen coyotes on the golf courses.

Yep there are. Saw a dead one along 466a about a month ago just north of the golf course sanibel area near Morse/466a intersection. They are around.

There was a pack of cougars at Katie Belle's yesterday, followed by a circling flock of vultures, the difference being, vultures are still young enough to hunt, but to old to bring their prey down.

I doubt Coyotes would want to fight. I believe they would prefer to eat. These are wild animals, not pets.:mmmm:

The coyote would have run away. Coyotes are not confrontational unless they are rabid or protecting their young. I've never heard of a coyote attacking a human walking a dog. However a small dog or cat left outside in the backyard without human supervision could be considered prey for a hungry coyote. Unfortunately, the more coyotes are exposed to humans, the bolder they get. Same with gators or bears.
