View Full Version : Hit & Run Corvette Vs Golf Cart Morse Blvd

4:40 PM on Morse near San Marino close to the Mailbox Center, my wife was south bound in a gray Corvette black top convertible when a green golf cart made an abrupt left turn hitting the right front wheel and proceeded to slide down the passenger side of the car. Her first reaction was that the gentleman was injured. She pulled off the side of the road and the guy made a U turn and headed off in the other direction. He was wearing a straw hat with a black band. The golf cart was green. It has to have some serious front end damage. A witness tried to find him but without success. We have a witness statement but would like for anyone with information to contact me.
The green golf cart driver may have injuries. Although Corvettes are fiberglass, it still takes quite a bit of force to punch holes in the quarter panel, tear a mirror off, and shove the door back so it won't open. :rant-rave:

Perhaps the driver was injured and drove to the hospital? I would not like to think that one would just up and leave without checking to see if anyone else was hurt! Hope you are able to track him down.

Sorry to hear this! Perhaps the golf-cart person has some sort of impairment and didn't want to get the law involved! Hoping someone will find out the answers to this. Did your wife call the sheriff's office??

I am sorry to hear it. Henry said that he was probably drinking and didn't want to get caught.

that is one powerful golf cart if it can out run a corvette! the best thing is it is only metal,,nobody we know of got hurt, yea the guy ran,, but what the heck,, you have insurance, and you can bet that guy will NEVER turn left the rest of his life without looking,,, and your bride will be super vigilant around golf carts,, not that she wasnt this time,, but we all need a little wake up call now an then,, i can tell you this will make me watch closer,, so i thank you for bringing this here.... beside i bet you were looking to trade that plastic hog anyway now you have an excuse! what color will the new one be? i love the bright yellow ones! maybe you might look for a green one that way next time it will match the golf cart!

What a shame. Sorry to hear that. is there a 3 strike policy here in Fla? I wonder why the driver of the cart would run out like that. Witness protection, perhaps? I do hope you get a resolution soon.

Anytime a car gets damaged it hurts ole Carguys! Especially a Corvette. That impact must have shaken you wife terrible and for the cart driver to just speed off he must have been under the influence. Or running from a pending ticket.
The cart will have to be repaired. The police should find out who is buying parts from the local reair shops that perform cart repairs.

The OP and his very nice wife are long time posters and very dear people. They have organized many fund raisers in support of breast cancers Relay for Life here in The Villages and I have never heard a single word about either of them that wasn't praise. They are real people and good people too who I am sure planned to take care of this very nice car for a long time.
I feel so bad about this happening.

"nobody we know of got hurt, yea the guy ran,, but what the heck,, you have insurance,"
If that statement is an attempt at humor, it was lost on me. If it was a statement of your actual opinion, I am astonished.

If I understand the description of the accident, both vehicles are going south on Morse when the cart veers into the right front of the car. Cart then U turns thus going north on Morse. Could mean the cart never got to a gate in either direction, but might be worth asking the camera people, whomever they may be, to review their Morse photos for the 15 mins before and after the incident.

What the Heck. The owners rates go up and what the Heck they pay out your nose for the next 3-5 years for someone else who was at fault.
Not to mention trying to match the paint.
Insurance is not a get outta jail free card.

The Green Golf Cart will most likely need repair. Possibly a frame that supports the top along with front end damage. The driver may reside north of 466 along the Morse Blvd area. I suspect he's in hiding. The car is at a body shop with damage estimate pending. I'll post results once received.
Thanks to those for the tips. They're being investigated.

Bumping this. I was just thinking as much as I would hate another rigamarole we may have to have something like a license number on our carts for reasons just like this.
Does anyone know someone with a green golf cart that appears damaged or who is not using their green golf cart?
I feel awful about this, Steve.

I'm sure someone will post a comment about "big brother", but I am not opposed to a registration of our carts, including a tag of some sort.

Sorry to hear about this unfortunate accident. But I must confess I don't get how it happened. Something seems to be left out of the description of how it happened.
You said your wife was south bound on Morse but didn't say that the golf cart was also south bound on Morse. If they were both south bound, how did the golf cart slide all the way down the passenger side after hitting the right front wheel? I don't get it. Perhaps someone can explain it.

On Morse Blvd., golf cart lane on the right - golf cart attempts a left as the car is passing by (both traveling south) - cart hits the RF fender - car going at a faster rate of speed.....cart scrapes entire right side of car.
At least that's the way I read it - - -

I "sort of kinda hope" that our poster friend Villageshooter makes attempts at a bit of Satire in his posting from time to time. If that is so, no problem even if I disagree. One thing for sure, I know a golf cart is no match for a car and the right thing was done by stopping and attempting to see if anybody was hurt. Good luck in solving this issue.

Thanks, I got it. That means the roads are dangerous because we can't count on other drivers to do what we expect them to do. They're always doing the unexpected.

Was the golf cart street legal or did all of this happen north of 466?
So sorry about your car, maybe driver of cart will come forward soon, hope so!

That is north of 466 and I have always said that area is a accident waiting to happen. Unfortunately for Ms F 16 it happened on her watch.

Originally I guessed the amount of damage to be around 6K. The cost to repair the vehicle is $6274.35 - This does not include 2 weeks of car rental.

I have driven all over Europe, lots of cities and states in the US and believe the following:
1. Worst city to drive in is Boston. They actually don't care if you have an
inch ahead of them they will still try to beat you.
2. Worst city to understand directions is Washington DC
3. Best way to drive in NY City is to stay one inch ahead of the other guy
as he/she will not cut you off vis a vis Boston
4. Most fun to drive in is San Francisco
5. When driving in Europe remember never look back as the car on the right always has the right away and stay out of passing lane unless you are passing someone.
6. Most dangerous is either some parts of Miami or some parts of LA.
7. DRIVING IN THE VILLAGES. WHILE IN OTHER PLACES YOU CAN PRETTY
MUCH PREDICT WHAT THE OTHER GUY WILL DO. NOT HERE. REASON DOES
NOT EXIST..SOME FEEL A SENSE OF "ENTITLEMENT" TO THE ROAD AND YOU
ARE TO TRY TO GUESS WHAT THEY WILL DO AND GIVE THEM ROOM..
Just some things on driving. does anyone want to expand the list?:ho:
