View Full Version : Morning/Mourning in America

In 1984 a famous ad was put out by the Reagan campaign that set a new standard for modern political advertising with its "Morning in America" series, which included one of the greatest political ads of all time -- "Better, Prouder, Stronger."
The ad captured the times with America, under President Reagan, coming back and full of optimism and confidence in the future.
Today our reality is exactly the opposite. Americans are worried about their future and the future of their children. They're burdened by a government determined to implement policies that just don't work.
But now, like the Reagan ad, "Mourning in America" is offering new hope; hope that if we can just get our government to return to time tested policies that we can spark a rebirth of liberty, and we might, and our children might, have a chance to experience the American Dream once more.

... and the best way to do this is to outsource jobs, close factories after selling off their assets, and offshore your profits to the Caymans?

You don't mince words do you? Thank God some folks still have clarity. Poor President Reagan, the john birch society is still alive and drag his body through the streets of America daily. What ever happened to RR's kind spirit in our politicians?

Confused, Posh. Wasn't the John Birch Society the one who saw Communists behind every fire hydrant? Sort of like some of the the uber-conservatives on this forum, aren't they?
Without looking it up on Google, who was John Birch?

The John Birch Society was the first time in my memory hearing the term "right wing". They were extreme anti-communists, and opposed civil rights legislation, alleging the entire civil rights movement was a communist conspiricy. Named for a missionary turned spy who was killed by Chinese Communists at the end of WWII, and proclaimed the first victim of the cold war.

That is 100% correct - now, without the benefit of Google - who was John Birch?

I recalled the essence, but not the details, so looked it up. See my edited previous post.

Don't have to be making fun of Mitt Romney - he is doing it to himself on his trip to England.
I really liked the quip by the Prime Minister of telling Romney running an Olympics "in the middle of nowhere" was a lot easier than in a city.
Do we have another Sarah Palin on our hands? :22yikes:

You unrepentant leftists have been trying to link the great Ronald Reagan to the birchers for years and it was bullcrap then and it's bullcrap now.
You'll never be able to tarnish the great legacy of Ronald Reagan who was the greatest president, bar none, this country has had in our lifetimes.
Obama will never be remembered as reverently, except by aging communists in a backstreet bar somewhere in the future.

What confused you? Maybe you thought that I was tying RR to JB? No, that is not right but the Far Right would love to rework his memory and claim him.
Now has far as who was John Birch? Had no clue until Coach posted. The Society I was familiar with. Right wing nut jobs.

"ronald Reagan was the greatest president bar none." Really and your facts to perhaps enlighten us on this choice. I will tell you all the historians are not in agreement with you but thats nothing new.

You're talking about the radical socialist leftist historians that infest almost every area of greater academia known to mankind?
I wonder how that could be?

That was a great link to The John Birch Society and Robert Welch. Isn't it just amazing how so many of their phrasings appear BOTH on FOX NEWS and in the demented words of some of the wubers on this forum?

we are so divided in our country today, even in this silly forum, and that is as a direct result of disagreements over Obama's policies...that is why we will be in mourning until he is out! and greater mourning if he stays in....

Richielion: Had you noticed not one post following the initial (Original) post above ever ever directed comments , let along postive comments about what this all meant to Americans. People can say what the will about Ronald Reagan but he made people once again fell pride in being an American. He made clear who and what were the threats to an American way of life and he served as President with pride. Ronald Reagan had so much respect for the position of Preident, for his role as President, for the White House and for American that when he worked in his office his suit jacket never came off.
Ronald Reagan and Harry Truman were great presidents because they served America first and not themselves. So thank you richielion your post gave me a glimpse of what was once America.

It didn't escape me, but I expected no less and no more from the liberals.
Ronald Reagan is perhaps one of the greatest American Presidents who was true to America's character and greatness, and elevated the people along with this country.
Barack Obama pales in comparison. Obama has deflated this country's character, power and pride. He has failed in everything he's tried to do; assuming he really was trying to improve our economy and status.

And when you referenced Reagan that realty of a Reagan v Obama hit liberals like a ton of bricks . Its like comparing Charlize Theron to Ma Kettle.

Keep in mind that there are tens of millions of Americans that feel Obama is on the right track, so rather than being so relentless to insult him and what he has done, you would be better at getting your point across if you provided how Mitt will do it differently and why Mitt's way will be better for this country. I agree with many of the right wing posts, but when you use sarcasm or insults, I am more likely to lean more toward the position of your victim. You can push me to the left, but with that kind of trash talk, you will never pull me to the right.

I don't believe anyone posts here with the expectation that it might alter someone's vote.
It might make you read something you haven't to see what people are talking about and that article might spur your thinking, and that might be a positive thing in expanding your knowledge of the issues involved.
I really doubt you are aiming to form your political opinions by what is said on this forum by it's members alone.

You make it sound as if that an unusual thing. A compliment and a poke in the same sentence.
If nothing else, you know how to make me laugh.
