A Washington Post columnist has come up with a word for Mitt Romney's missteps-- Mitticulous.
http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20120801/OPINION04/308010047/Matthew-Miller-Out-adjectives-Romney-Try-Mitticulous-?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CHome%7Cs&nclick_check=1

Mitt Romney does seem to rival George W. Bush in making statements that are great at providing fodder for comedians.

I still voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 though.

Romney garnered endorsements from Israel and Poland, raked in over $1 million in campaign funds and was able to lay out a foreign policy agenda.

His so called mistakes were to to tell the truth about London's lack of security preparations, that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel and to talk tough on Iran. And he had the audacity to say that perhaps the differernce of Israel and Palestinan cultures might have something to do with their respective economies. (WSJ Opinion 8/1/12)

Essentially what some people are saying is how dare Romney tell the truth.

Finally we have the beginning of straight talk from a politician and some people JUST CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

How would Mitt Romney know anything about London's security preparedness for the olympics, except what he and everybody else could read in the newspaper? For him to go over there and criticize them on national TV is incomprehensible and indefensible. Normal people don't go into another's home or country and criticize them.

Pretty sophomoric exercise by the supposedly serious newspaper. How transparently biased can they be?

Stupid quotes come out of Obama and Biden's mouth on a daily basis. Gaffe's that various partisan websites call Obamaisms; with some posting the "Obamaism" of the day.

This is just dumb and demeaning and spotlights the Washington Post for the left wing rag it really it.

Maybe that's a good thing.

Romney wasn't wrong. He saw blunders by the London Oympic Organizers and commented on it. He has the gravitas to do so if anyone does.

Mitt Romney played the ugly American rather than simply enjoying the Olympics. Nothing he said was not already in the news somewhere, so why repeat it?

And, I just do not see Romney's gravitas. He is a banker and a politician; not a security expert.

I would criticize a Democrat if he/she did something this bone-headed.

i think that because we have had to listen to the words of obama and biden for so long that many have lost the ability to differentiate between an opinion and a gaffe - not to mention a fact or the truth. critical thinking is a skill that fewer and fewer people seem to demonstrate - especially at election time.

when someone does not have to weigh everything that comes out of their mouths and they speak what they believe and they WILL step on some toes as a result....make some mistakes as a result...will be a more truthful, believable, spontaneous person.

Very unlike the constant measuring, preparing, prompting, teleprompting speaking of the career politician as masterfully demonstrated by Obama for the last 4 years.....complete lack of sincerity most of the time.

btk, you're a thoughtful and intelligent poster who I have agreed with much of the time, and often admired your ability to express yourself. However, lately your distaste for Obama has caused your posts to be biased and unreasonable in my opinion. I really appreciate posters who keep a balance and a fair approach in their posts, which I admit is rare. It seems to me that Romney is a sincere and reasonable person who really would like to help the country. I also believe Obama is a sincere and reasonable person who would like to help the country. They have very different ideas and views on how theat would be accomplished, and those differences can and should be debated. However to call into question either's sincerity, honesty, or patriotism adds nothing to the debate and simply causes people on the other side of the spectrum to be insulted and pushed further into their political corner.

Fair and balanced for Team Obama and the liberal media is a one way street.

The ommission and commissions committed against the Republican and/or conservatives by the liberal media borders on criminal.

Nothing that I have seen in the MSM on the Presidents secret plan with Syria that has been going on all year. That was a no no in past administrations with the media.

I personally learn a lot from the exchange of ideas in the Political Forum. And I don't find it offensive when posters take pot shots at each other. With Politics and Religion, a lot of people are deeply committed, and we can expect a little "rough n tumble". That's why there is an "Opt In" button.

I don't mind a little "rough n tumble", and in fact participate in it myself. However, it provides little in the way of understanding and a lot in the way of turning off those on the other side. If you really care to change the hearts and minds of people, it is best to show their opinions and beliefs a little respect.

Whenever people are losing the argument they decry the "incivility" of their political adversary. It's supposed to shut the other guy up.

It happens not only here but the lamestream media does it to shut up Obama critics everywhere.

Does this ever work?

That's funny. Needed that.

Romney just seems like a politician making stops abroad on his fund raising trip and saying whatever he thinks at these stops which will get him more money for his campaign. It all looks as sincere as those Political Action Committee negative ads.

I am not saying the Obama campaign is any better though with their PAC ads slamming Romney.

Just do not think that the seriousness of issues like that of the diplomatic capital of Israel and the religious and military history of Jerusalem should be manipulated for vote pandering. Romney also seemed to be doing that in London even if that looks like it was probably the result of reporters trying to get a good quote from candidate Romney.

the only time my perspective may take on an appearance of bias is when I see the same behavior repeated time and again by someone who is supposed to be the protector of the United States, the constitution and we the people.

I am, like most people, a function of one's background. I am one who believes when I am promised something....I fully expect it.

When I am told what a person is going to do and they do not do it, I do not mince words. I want to know why and what they are going to do about it.

I am out of patience for Obama's tactics. No transparency as promised. Too much back room politics. No real, tangible initiatives regarding the major issues facing this country:
unemployment
jobs
energy independence
defense
deficit reduction
how about a budget?
how about not spending more than what is being taken in?
just to name a few.

The man will not stand and be counted in any issue that may have a negative impact or perspective on him or his electability. It is always politics.

I have said time and again if he were in the private sector he would have not made it through the first year.

A leader, a real genuine leader does not measure what to do based on personal risk or reward. They assess, they plan, they commit, they hold delegates and themselves accountable, they report progress, they make corrective action if new information affects the direction given......THEY DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO GET THE TASK DONE. They first and foremost never ever blame the guy who had the job before them. They do not say it is worse than they thought, both reasons for lack of progress. They know making such statements are signs of weakness, lack of leadership. They hire people to work for them that are also leaders that are capable of getting the job/commitments done.

Yes there are some things that can go in his completed column....but not the ones he promised to get elected with or the ones that are of critical importance to the longevity of America.

I gave him his first year....until his first state of the nation speech to make up my mind about him. He did not deliver. By deliver I do not expect some issues to be magically solved in one year. I do however expect to see initiatives undertaken on the major issues that result in solution...some short term....some very long term like energy independence as an example.

So now almost 4 years later and on the major issues facing this country there are no initiatives yet on the table for any of the major issues listed above. In addition the no budget still continues...the out of control, borrow 40 cents of every dollar spending continues. Super committees fail to do their tasks...bail outs without consequence are the order of the day...there is not one good reason yet to have any confidence about the direction of the country....NONE.

And to have to listen to him day in and day out make the same promises again....tell us he needs more time to get the job he started done....is just plain outright unacceptable to an action/response oriented, make it happen no matter what it takes type person like myself. If he worked for me he would have gotten his walking papers before the end of the first year.

Those are my beliefs and convictions and I most certainly do not subscribe to holding back what I believe in. I will stand and be counted even if it means I am the only one in the room to do so. And I do know how to eat crow if or when I have ever been wrong. Until then.....I call it as I see it.

Some of us know there are times when doing what must be done can be very painful and at times unpopular. However these are not criteria for not moving forward and doing what needs to be done. And this in a nut shell underscores why politicians like Obama cannot do the job.

In my very personal and humble opinion.

btk

Your father had a John Wayne mentality? That may not be what you really want to say. John Wayne was married 3 times and divorced twice. He had a penchant for the leading ladies.

John Wayne is always depicted as an American hero in the war movies. In fact, he got a deferment so he did not serve in WWII. The deferment was for being 34 years old. Heck, lots of guys enlisted over the age of 34. Other actors were in WWII like Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable. Yes, John Wayne movies did get guys to enlist but he never served.

Hi janmcn: Obama has criticized and continues to do so in his campaign concerning Mitt Romney so called faux pas of , "it is a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem , the capital of Israel".

Let's exam the facts. When addressing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee on June 4, 2008 as Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said that "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided."

Bill Clinton during his 1992 campaign said that he would "recognize Jerusalem as an undivided city , the eternal capital of Israel, and I believe in principle of moving our embassy to Jerusalem."

John Kerry during his 2004 campaign stated, "he has long advocted moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, Israel's undisputed capital. And in 1999 he( John Kerry) signed a letter taking President Clinton to task for not moving the embassy."

These are campaign promises meant to get the Jewish vote. Never kept though because of how complex the Jerusalem issue is. Presidents Ronald Reagan, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Nixon and both Bushs made the same decision to keep the diplomatic capital in Tel Aviv. I wonder why?

If you are looking for something other than a politician in Romney, I sincerely doubt if you will find anything. Unless, that is, the POTUS wants to start another war in the Mideast to go along with those of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Senator Barack Obama has flown into Israel vowing that if he wins the presidential election he will work towards ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict "from the minute I'm sworn into office".
...this sure makes it look like another campaign promise was broken! do you think it might be the reason that he has not been back there as president. and if he did get re-elected and went back, would it be to apologize? i think NOT!

Candidate Obama Also Called Jerusalem Israel (http://cnsnews.com/news/article/candidate-obama-also-called-jerusalem-israel-s-capital-then-backtracked)
Candidate Obama Also Called Jerusalem Israel’s Capital, Then Backtracked
from the article:
1] "Any negotiated agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, he [obama] said, “must preserve Israel’s identity as a Jewish state with secure, recognized, defensible borders. And Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided.”"
...he said, not knowing or disregarding the diplomatic relations dilemma this issue has been for years...or...spoken just like a candidate!
2] "“The whole world knows that holy Jerusalem was occupied in 1967 and we will not accept a Palestinian state without having Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state,” P.A. chairman Mahmoud Abbas told reporters in Ramallah."
...the candidate sure didn't make mahmoud abbas happy - did he!
3] "Hours later, the senator for Illinois[obama] told CNN, “Well, obviously, it’s going to be up to the parties to negotiate a range of these issues. And Jerusalem will be part of those negotiations.” A spokesman for his campaign sought to explain that what Obama opposed was a return to a city divided by “barbed wire and checkpoints as it was in 1948-67.”"
...obama needed a spokesman way back then to tell us what the candidate REALLY meant! years later such backtracking would be referred to as a 'corey booker'!

I think he meant John Wayne's CHARACTERS mentality.[/QUOTE]

I am sure he meant the characters that Wayne played, too. I always enjoy a John Wayne movie. In fact, yesterday, TCM had 24 hours of John Wayne movies in their 31 days of Oscar winners. Today, it is Myrna Loy. Way before my time.

Do you care to post a link to support your claims?

Do not need links...fairly common knowledge about all the promises made relative to health care which simply disappeared to the drug lobby.

unemployment was promised to be a major thrust of his administration; He is now talking about it for reelection benefits. I suppose it simply skipped his mind for three years.

His beautiful talk on reaching across the aisle, etc

His promises on tax fixes and he basically fired his own group to advise him on that.

His promises on transparency which have sort of been forgotten.

These do not need links and there are more if you are interested. He is spewing the same nonsense again.
