Generally I find it to be very good. BUT, you have to do your homework before you commit to a doctor, dentist, etc. Remember, wherever you have a bunch of old f**ts like us the scam artists will follow like rats and the Pied Piper.

It's just like anywhere else: A big-name, famous hospital or medical research center often impresses people because the name is a status symbol, but the doctor you get or choose can sometimes turn out to be a pompous jerk who's above talking with a "mere" patient, or he/she could turn out to be a very astute, caring and capable clinician who unfortunately has NO interpersonal skills.
Just like you go about finding an astute and trustworthy car mechanic or hairdresser, one must talk to others and find out how their experience with a particular doctor has been in terms of knowing his stuff, communicating, being caring and friendly, and also about whether they are quick to respond or if they brush off what seems to be an alarming situation to you, the patient.
To generalize a whole state or even a whole city as being good or bad medical care is neither helpful nor constructive. There are skilled and astute doctors as well as know-it-all jerk ones in every hospital.
Overall, The Villages has good ones....you just have to talk with lots of people to hear consistent praises or complaints about the individual drs. Also about the individual hospitals. TOTV is a good place to hear it all.

This is a VERY good answer! It's not any different here than anywhere else....you either follow what your insurance dictates or word of mouth!

I think a lot depends on how much medical care one needs. If someone has complicated health issues it will be extremely important to find just the right doctor. Some, like myself, who don't have any health issues might not want to waste a lot of time searching for just the right one. Anyway, I do like the one I have now and, for all I know, he may be very good. You don't get to test their skills until you develope a problem.

Some good posts on this thread already and I cannot add much. There are good doctors everywhere we have lived and doctors that turned out not so good everywhere we lived. How you can tell the difference?? $64,000 question. Until you have a major complicated medical issue its difficult to know if your Doctor really cares about his patients or mostly the money.
Florida and TV has some very good doctors. Good luck. :)

I am having a difficult time finding the right doctors. I have a urologist, primary care, cardiologist, dermatologist. They have ALL been heavy on tests and prescribed medicines without any follow-up. My symptoms are not any better/or worse than one year ago. Where is the prevention?
My dentist schedules a cleaning and check up every six months, along with lots of x-rays, flouride treatment, sale of electric toothbrush, etc. For the first time in my life I am experiencing mouth discomfort. After going in for another checkup I was told "looks okay, I don't think we'll bother that"-------Is he waiting for something more extensive and expensive to happen? I would once again like to feel confidence in my doctors.
