I think the new posting guidelines are great! No reason not to respect someone stating an opinion different from yours.

i wish the admin had clarifies who 'we' are and who is issuing 'our bans'.

the concept is a good one - but i question whether we can rely on a uniformity of opinion and judgement re what is 'civility' and when threads begin to degenerate.

i could not help but chuckle at the admin's use of the phrase "We strive for this forum to be only happiness, fluff and light..." made me think back to the posts about the daily sun being a marketing tool for the developer and wonder if that is what totv is becoming! ;)

Just an FYI... the "new" Posting Guidelines are simply an update of an old Sticky post from past Admins Tony, Jan, and Darrel.

The Admin is the only one who issues infractions and post bans. The Moderators offer input and advice but it is the Admin's decision.

Can this be misundertood as freedom of speech removed. Just a question after all this is a subscribed to section and not an open part unless subscribed to. I do agree that personal attacks to other posters shouldnt happen but with this subject matter it will happen.

This message board, and many others on the net are private boards and the owner/host allows posters, free access. Owners get to set the rules.

That's true.

The problem comes with juggling how to respond to a controversial or "out there" thought without addressing the person that thought comes from directly.

The art of true debate isn't a skill all who write on any message board can successfully accomplish. It's so easy to have any argument turn personal......SIGH....:(

Just in my opinion, this new Admin has molded a more civil environment since they have been here and I feel more open to freely express my political thoughts with less stress.

I have learned so much about how to have non face to face conversations in the past 6 months. If I overstep the rules I want my posts deleted so Keep up the good work admin, as it is working for the benefit of everyone regardless of party affiliation or religious preference.

If we have to explain what 'civility' is to a user they probably aren't the right fit for a user account on TOTV. We make it real simple - DO NOT DIRECT COMMENTS AT ANOTHER USER.

Please see the bottom of every page on TOTV for clarity that this site is not owned by The Villages Development company. We have no affiliation with them and honestly don't even have any contacts what so ever with anyone there.

We do not moderate opinions on the site. Rule #1 - DO NOT DIRECT COMMENTS TOWARD ANOTHER USER. Ultimately, it is a private site and a user account is not a 'right' but has to be requested, terms of the account agreed to by the requested user, and then granted by the administration.
