I have a group of 96 golfers, all Villagers, and we are playing a scramble at Amberwood and Oakleigh on September 25th. I tried to schedule the use of the Chatham Rec. Center meeting room and was told that it would cost our group $52 per hour to use the room. I need the room for two hours.

I thought that Villagers could use the rec. center meeting rooms without charge. Anyone out there have any input as to why Villagers are being charged for the use of their recreation facilities. Do all of the large clubs get charged for the use of meeting rooms?

Also, there is a $75 refundable cleaning deposit. If the room is clean when you leave, you will get your cleaning deposit back.

It is normal to be charged for use of the large rooms. The card rooms to my knowledge are free to Villagers. In order to use the large rooms for free, you need to become an official Village Club. That would mean you would hold monthly get-togethers in a large rec center room. In order to become an official club you will need to go to one of the regional recreation centers and speak with the person behind the desk. They will explain the procedures and paperwork involved.

As already stated...large rooms are for money and the small rooms are free!

That conversation just came up with a host at a rec center and myself when someone inquired in person. They asked if they could rent a large room. The answer was yes, BUT, every attendee would need to be a Village resident and show their passes to be free, else there was a charge to use the room. It varied by rec ctr and size of rooms what I understood.

I had always heard it doesn't have anything to do with the size of the room. Our neighbor for our village monthly gathering told us if all people have Villages ID passes it is free AND a room is available. You can't have any more people in the room than the number they give you. We use a big room at Laurel Manor monthly for our meetings....UNLESS you mean the room with the stage...I didn't think about that. I don't know about that room.

If you are a club there are rules since room availability is limited. You must maintain a certain number of folks if you have contracted for it monthly or you will lose the use of the room. There are other rules as well. All rec centers belong to all residents. So if you live way north you can use a room way south and the opposite of that. Same with all pools.

If you are a volunteer teacher, teaching art for example, you cannot charge for your service if you are using a rec center.

The Lifelong Learning center classes are not free and not limited to residents.

Just threw a party at the Bradenton Rec Center. I went to the Recreation department to get a room, here's the scoop. The card room (small room) in Village Rec centers are free as long as all guests are residents or have guest ID. You are charged a fee to use the large room at the Village Rec Centers, unless you are an official club. All rooms at Regional Rec Centers are charge a fee unless you are an official club. They asked if there were any non-residents attending the party. When I said yes, relatives from MA were coming, I was told that was okay because they would have a valid guest ID.

So......we had around 30 people in the card room which was plenty big for us. Most were residents and a few were relatives from MA. No charge for the room. We had to set up and clean up the room and put the tables and chairs back in place before we left.

Our neighborhood social uses the large room at a Village Rec Center and we do not pay because we are a recognized club. We could also use (and we have) rooms in the Regional Rec Center at no charge.

I hope this clears it up.
