I can't wait to hear the answer. I just started seeing these gnats two weeks ago. We had fruit on the kitchen counter ( banana, apple, pear). Don't know if that attracted them or maybe they were ON the fruit when we purchased them. Ate the fruit but still see these little tiny gnats(fruit flies?) Cant seem to get rid of them. Just one or two....but driving ME crazy...hubby doesn't even notice them.

If it is fruit flies, you can spray bug killer into your kitchen sink disposal in case they are hanging out there. Just wondered why bugs are a "feminine forum" topic. We could double the audience and potential solutions in the General discussion forum!

Don't think they're fruit flies. Last year we had them pretty bad, I sprayed with no good results. Had "Bug Man" out...he did his thing but when I called they said not to vacuum them up. So I didn't! He looked at them and shook his head, saying he didn't know what they were neither. In our case, they seem to love the windows and patio door and are profuse on them but die and are on the threshold and sills. I haven't noticed them this year!!

No need to start a new post. You can Edit your original post, but spelling is no biggie.
Didn't mean to make it an issue, Sorry.

or called Aquatic midges. Don't know if that is what you have but if they are around your house and hanging onto the lanai screen/windows then it probably is the blind mosquito. When they get inside they do look just like a gnat because they are so small. They don't bite thank goodness but are a nuisance. It use to be a concern for people living close to the ponds etc but it seems like there are so many of them now that once hatched they go where the wind takes them. They also attach themselves to the house around the eaves. Their life span is only a couple of weeks and the way they breed is very difficult to eliminate them. I use to see them in March for a few months then again in September but I have them now from March thru December. Massey said they can spray but it is only for the moment because of their cycle. There is a brief article written in 2011 below about the ones in Mount Dora. Doesn't sound like I have them that bad but I can not go out my lanai because there are so many on the screen. Kinda creepy...

I don't like to spray around the house with chemicals so try to avoid it. These gnat flies (if that) just fly around in LR (if I'm sitting in chair) near my puter so not just kitchen. Have killed 3 so far and saw one this morning. I'm trying a remedy of vinegar and dish detergent sitting on kitchen counter and will see if they fall into that. will let you know.

Pour bleach into your drains. Even the ones in the bathroom. We just had an infestation and it was the only thing that killed them. The eggs are down into your drains and even if you kill the ones you see flying, the babies will be hatching soon.
