Where is there in TV to get a quick hair cut. And walk out holding your head up. :) Is there a place you can walk in without an appointment and get a reasonably good haircut? It doesn't even have to be in TV proper.

I thought the same thing when I first got here. I went to Cal's Barber shop in Colony Plaza and have been happy with the results, and they don't over charge. Jerry cuts mine, but walk ins are welcomed anytime with no appointments

Is it for women? or men? or both? I do want a little more than a barber. :)

Not all that work at Cal's are barbers. I go to Cal's at Lake Sumter Landing. Shelly, who cuts my hair, as well as Mike's hair, is a hairdresser. Right now, it's not too difficult to just walk in. Once our seasonal friends return to TV, it might be better to schedule an appointment. we've been using Cal's for alxmost 6 years and are very happy with their service and our stylist.

I know several women who go to Cal's. There are women who work at Cal's also. If you want a particular woman, you may need an appt.

Okey dokey. So not to get picky but is Sumter or Colony have better cutters. I am planning on just walking in and saying I need a haircut so I need a few hints here as to where and who I should ask for. Or....is it safe to go to either and just take whoever is avail.
I get I can ask for Shelley and be safe. If she isn't there, any other names?

Mel is at Lake Sumter Landing....she cuts my mother-in-law's hair. I might suggest you ask for a female stylist initially. When we first started at Cal's, a male stylist cut my hair. He did an okay job, but I wasn't totally satisfied. You could just drop in and watch for a bit. You will see how each stylist works with their clients, how they cut hair. You'll be asked if you have an appointment or if not, do you need a haircut. Tell that person you are new and just want to watch so you can decide on who to ask for. Shouldn't be a problem and you'll get to see a busy, "home town" business in operation.

My wife cuts my hair and has done so for the last 35 years. She still doesn't do it right but I hate to hurt her feelings.:clap2:

Pooh. Great info. Thanks. I was getting befuddled with Colony versus Lake versus SS. But I think you are right. Go and watch the women cutters. I will go to Colony since it is the closest...

If you go to Spanish Springs Cals you will find half of the shop is a salon with an adjoining room that is a barbershop. They do a great job for a very fair price compared to the very overpriced other salons I encountered the first two times I ventured out here. Sharon is wonderful .

Big Al's just past the markets of Marion. It's $6.00 with the coupon in the Monday Daily Sun it's $5.00. Not there more than 10 minutes.

I use Mel (female) at Cals in Lake Sumter Landing. She's very good. I've used Shelly, she's good, but I prefer Mel. I'e never seen anyone come out with a bad cut from any employee there. Good Luck, Trish

Why does a quick haircut necessitate it be a barber? Plenty of places do not require an appointment as stated above. I'll be trying Lake Sumter Cal's. Looks likes the odds are good :) Thanks.

Big Al's has a seperate building for the Ladies. It is around $10. My neighbor gets hers done there and it looks fine. I cant not get my wife to try it. She pays $45 at some place. What is the difference between a "good hair cut & a bad hair cut"?............................. About 2 weeks, it will grow back! :coolsmiley:

What is the average price for a cut? Is there a difference for men vs women? My DH is more particular than I am about the cut With my short hair it doesn't seem to matter. I've been going to The Academy, but the length of time is getting to me. The drive to Marion and the shoppe beside Big Al is a bit long for a cut, but I have had a good $10 one there. DH goes to John the Barber on 441 just south of 466 but it is more money ($15) and a bit far. Colony or LSL would be much closer if the price was right and we could use the cart. :a040:

FLOWBEE . . . . . My wife has been cutting my hair with a FLOWBEE for years and is very good at it. People can't believe you can get such a good haircut with a vacuum cleaner. Other than the trimming around the edges, I almost think I could do it myself.

IF you are in the neighborhood of Marion Market stop at Big Al's [about 5 mi. north of TV on right of 444 - 9 Chairs / little or no wait most of the time
$6.00 regular cut / $1.00 off coupon in Mondays paper
They cut hair fast and I believe well - Kind of old fashioned place also

They charge $12 (plus tip) at Cal's for a men's cut. Appears to be higher than some of these other places being talked about.

It is $14 for a ladies which is less than the price of the tip from our neck of the woods so I am extremely extremely extremely happy.

I kept threatening my wife that this is the last time she cuts my hair. I tell her I am going to go to the Professional Hair Salon off of 466. I explained they have a "child's cut" for $7.00 and that is the one I'm asking for":MOJE_whot:
