View Full Version : Shopping near Communities

Most of the newly built homes seem to be located south of 466A. Don't know where we will end up buying but:
I seem to notice that most of the shopping (Dept., Grocery etc.) seems to be by the two current Village Squares.
IF this is correct do you know of any plans of these types of stores and restaurants opening down south?
Is this even a problem? Can't really gauge the mileage between (let's say) Sanibel and LSL and SS.
Thanks for all your help. More questions to come.

ugotme, there are no stupid questions. Pennecamp is a village on the south end of The Villages. It is north of 466A, and west of Buena Vista Blvd. It is one of the newer villages, and I believe Pennecamp is now all built out -- someone correct me if I am wrong on this.
If you want an all Villages map that shows where is each village is -- go to The Villages 4 Rent, Rentals in The Villages (http://www.thevillages4rent.com) -- click on the All Villages Map tab. The only villages not on this map are the newest villages south of 466A -- Sanibel, Charlotte, Fernandina and Gilcrest. The owners of this web site should really add the villages south of 466A to this map. Hope this answer helps.

Bummer......it works o.k. on my machine.
A work-around: Click "Quote Post" on my post that has the 'Antrim Dells' link then look for the link info in the area where it allows you to do your typing. Strip out all the unrelated 'hide referer' stuff - just copy all the Villages Commercial Property parts of the link, paste & go in a new window, and it should give you the data.
The whole 'hide referer' debacle is discussed here, compliments of ajbrown:

Hope that helps!

Worked for me, thank Bill.. always helpful!!
Ugotme, as Schaumburger says, there are NO DUMB QUESTIONS!!! We were all there at one time, so ask away. That's what is best about this forum.
There is also shopping on 466A at Colony plaza. So no need to go all the way down to Lake Sumter Square or Spanish Springs to shop.

We just built on Evesborough Path, Village of Sanibel. I love my house, I love my neighbors, I love the area. BUT.......we had been living in a villa we bought in Summerhill near Southern Trace Shopping Center. I sure do miss the convenience of living there!......Banks, shopping, doctors, restaurants, library, hardware store all within 5 minutes of the house.
Here I all I have is Colony Plaza.....I know the shopping will come, but it will be a LOOOONG time!
I realized there would be a trade off......I still do most of my major shopping up along 441/Rolling Acres Rd., Lady Lake.....I probably should have bought a place in Silver Lake!:1rotfl:

I got this from a reliable and well informed business person 2yrs ago that there's going to be a mall/shopping ctr. next to Brownwood on the same side heading west that will be built.

Not sure what this issue is with it. I tried a couple of different 'hide referrer' sites, some of which didn't work, when I was putting that link together. The one I posted in that link worked fine for me and apparently some other folks too. Yet it's apparently not working for a number of people.
Might have to do with different levels/types of security software people are running. Twilight zone stuff....... :loco:

Definitely need another gas station for folks living in the new areas south of 466A and us living in the far southeast corner north of 466A.
At present our closest option is the Shell at Colony Plaza which is often 20 cents per gallon higher than stations on 466.

Here is a site with shopping in The Villages The Villages Shopping Guide (http://www.thevillages.com/lifestyle/shoppingdiningmap.asp) Click on the names and see the stores.

Eventually there will be plenty of shopping down 466A way. However it may take awhile (like a couple of years) until the population increases enough and the store owners get their shops built. It is what happens when you move into a new area. It is going to be a while

466A will see very little commercial development. It's all golf on both sides of the road, except 1 area south of tamarind grove, which has a primarily residential development planned.

Bill--Is Antrim Dells on Villages preperty? I got your link fine, and I have heard from a number of different sources that Macy's and some other anchors are coming to a shopping area on 44A across from the villages. I just don't know if these people are credible. I guess we will all have to wait and see!

skyc6, yes - Antrim Dells is a Villages-owned property. The link provided was to TV's Commercial Property web site.
Oddly, though - - - I'd grabbed that link I posted from a prior post I'd made on the same topic from a while back. I now go to TV's Commercial Property web site.......and the available links have changed. Unless I've gone completely stoopid, there doesn't appear to be a link available that references Antrim Dells! The web page still exists (obviously) but there doesn't seem to be a way to link to it from elsewhere.
Hmmmmmmmm.................certainly a head-scratcher. :read:
Bill :)
Big mall planned just across Powell Road from Brownwood. Nation's second largest mall operator is involved. I can't remember the name but it is something like Bartolomio (sp). Talk of Macy's, Dillards, etc. per the Daily Sun.

bill i searched 'antrim dells commercial development fl' thru norton and got this interesting info:
Your Southern Home Realty, Inc. (http://www.yoursouthernhomerealty.com/)
Oxford Real Estate, Oxford Homes, Oxford Investment Property - Oxford Land Company (http://www.oxfordland.com/photos.php?property_ID=252583)
The Fresh Market Opens in the Villages | EON: Enhanced Online News (http://eon.businesswire.com/news/eon/20081119006446/en/Crossman-%26-Company/real-estate/supermarket) [2008 article - need to scroll down below the fresh market announcement]; the crossmanco.com link took me here Crossman & Co | Home (http://www.crossmanco.com/index.html) and i did not find any antrim dells info there
none of the linx seem to indicate that antrim dells is villages property

nj, the whole Antrim Dells thing seems as though TV's plans for it might have changed, given that the Antrim Dells link I posted was from their Commercial Property web site......at a prior point in time, at least.
Total supposition on my part, however. I don't want to be starting any rumors!! :D

Here's the scoop:
The e-mail I sent to the Commercial Property contact -
"Has there been a change in plans/direction regarding developing Antrim Dells? Over the course of maybe the last year or so, a link to cursory info regarding it was available on your Commercial Properties web site. Yet I go out to the web site now and any references to Antrim Dells have been removed.........or maybe I'm just overlooking something.
Any insights appreciated!"
The reply:
"That website has been continually evolving. It’s primary purpose is to give information on our market and our existing projects to those tenants that lease inline or outparcel space. In the last round of modifications we cleaned the website up to remove future developments because the size and nature of those projects typically change from the original concept by the time we’re going into the construction stage and we’d rather wait until we have good plans and information before posting something.
You are correct, I believe at one time there was some basic information about a commercial project there and a simple concept plan. Once we have something more definitive that is fit for publication we will update our website as well as release it in The Daily Sun. I hope that helps."
Now we know!
