I recall being told on this forum by a poster that worrying about Russia was like going back to the 50's and very backward looking.

Well, we see them in Syria and just read this...wondering if this is just nothing to be concerned about...

"A Russian nuclear-powered attack submarine armed with long-range cruise missiles operated undetected in the Gulf of Mexico for several weeks and its travel in strategic U.S. waters was only confirmed after it left the region, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

It is only the second time since 2009 that a Russian attack submarine has patrolled so close to U.S. shores.

The stealth underwater incursion in the Gulf took place at the same time Russian strategic bombers made incursions into restricted U.S. airspace near Alaska and California in June and July, and highlights a growing military assertiveness by Moscow.

The submarine patrol also exposed what U.S. officials said were deficiencies in U.S. anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

Nobody to worry about...

" CHICAGO, Aug 14 (Reuters) - U.S. wheat futures fell for a
third session on Tuesday, erasing early strength and setting a
one-month low after Egypt bought Russian and Ukrainian wheat at
an international tender and sent a signal that U.S. grain was
overpriced, traders said."

467 billion over 10 years? Are you kidding me? Is that even 1 nuclear sub or a couple of f-15s? The services waste more than that in a decade. Our defense dep't is doing very well, don't even think they will miss that chump change.

You know I didnt write the article and you folks who just ignore what the Russians may or may not be up to is very distressing.

This was about Russia and the US...you folks are turning it into something not meant to be.

Should not this be of concern to all parties...?

Forgive me but my mind was made up about Obama during his 2008 campaign. There isno question that history will prove he was the most unqualified person to have held this position. Unfortunately we can't impeach a president for poor performance. My definition of hell is four more years of this guy:22yikes:

A mature attitude....nice !!!!

I think the Russian re emerging on the scene is quite troublesome. They are getting involved and quickly in all aspects and NOT to our advantage.

I am really and truely surprised that NOBODY comments on whatever country that close to our mainland and we dont know PLUS another foreign country is beating us to the punch and taking money from us.

All we get on here is derision and fun making....guess it is fine with you as long as the polls show what you want them to.

Bucco,I'm with you to a point. The Russians are trying to re-emerge as a world player. They are picking their spots carefully this time around. However, cutting our defense a measly amount does not mean our leaders are ignoring the Russians or anyone else. Remember we the USA spend more money on defense that the rest of the world combined so a few billion should not hurt us in any way.

You know what, if that bothers you I am going to delete that ONE sentence. That seems to be all everyone reads and ignores the subs on our mainland.

Wow...even if you try to post on an issue, if it does not come out the way folks want they get upset.....

ON my way to fix it !

My friends here seems to be a little surprised by the Socialist Democrats on this forum dismissing Russia as a threat to America?

I don't understand the surprise.

Waynet should have realized that RichieLion has now taken to calling Democrats by "Social Democrats" and actually trying to make people believe that is the same as the Nazi Party. :loco:

If propaganda techniques are similar; is it wrong to take note of that?

History repeats itself all the time in strange ways.

Also, I said "Socialist Democrats"; that's way more descriptive and accurate.

The Russian coffers are filling up again. There will be much mischief and trouble making by them. Count on it. They have learned their lesson not to get involved with troops in long, drawn out ground wars.

The US is overwhelmingly the biggest military in the world. We are the only nation that still maintains bases outside of our own territory. And you know we routinely send submarines as close to Russia as we can get and that doesn't mean we are planning to attack them. If I understand the article, the Russian sub stayed in international water and was never detected. The British have nuclear subs, the French, the Chinese, and likely the Israelis too.

Besides, I feel real safe as Half governor Palin can keep an eye on Russia from her house.

Some of your points are well taken.....the point was supposed to be the emrgence of Russia on the world scene. You obviously missed the point...I also included a link to the USA losing sales to Russia.

And you failed to address the fact that the subs were UNDETECTED !
