"Campaigning in Missouri Valley, Iowa, yesterday, President Obama announced yet another government spending program -- this time designed to inflate meat prices in Midwest swing states. "Today the Department of Agriculture announced that it will buy up to $100 million worth of pork products, $50 million worth of chicken, and $20 million worth of lamb and farm-raised catfish," Obama explained to reporters in front of a drought-stricken cornfield.
"Prices are low, farmers and ranchers need help, so it makes sense," Obama explained. "It makes sense for farmers who get to sell more of their product, and it makes sense for taxpayers who will save money because we're getting food we would have bought anyway at a better price."
None of this makes sense. In fact, Obama's move only harms American consumers while protecting a corrupt federal program.
A drought is currently driving down corn production. The shortage of feed is forcing livestock producers to slaughter animals early, putting downward pressure on meat prices in the short run and guaranteeing shortages and higher prices next year. But nature is not the biggest factor in this crisis -- the government is. Specifically, the federal government's ethanol mandate, which requires that 13.2 billion gallons of corn-based ethanol be produced in 2012."

for some reason on threads like this one that contain a serious issue, there is either a complete lack of commentary or the usual nothing to do with the thread one liners.
Just in case Obama supporters missed the article that addresses the subject of the thread, here it is:

Please resist telling us about the media running the article....try to read the message.
What I find very interesting, the problem being highlighted can be solved so simply, yet Obama does not do so....because of a political agenda item/a you owe me/a special interest group/a lobbyist or something that affects him.
Why else would he NOT try to take an action that results in more good for America in general?

BTK I am sick of these people. This used to be an informative, even respectful place to talk issues, but recently the hate filled, immature posting is overwhelming.

Wind farm tax credits are a big thing in Iowa. Too bad the Republicans are against them.

As I was saying - before rudely interupted - the Republicans have been against the wind farm tax credits in Iowa and this has hurt them quite a bit. The Iowans are proud to be large corn producers and the ethanol tax credits have helped them greatly. Republicans are against those credits, too.
Remember, the past serves as a guide post and NOT as a hitching post!

Turning our food into fuel for our cars has got to be one of the worst ideas ever realized. How stupid.
Because Obama's Dept. of Energy mandated that a certain amount of corn ethanol be available for use in cars, which has paid for the incredibly expensive process with taxpayer dollars, the price of corn for other purposes, such as food, has risen dramatically. But now that corn prices are so high, the ethanol manufacturers can hardly afford to buy it to use in the production of ethanol.
This is what happens when government gets involved with business with these mandatory schemes. They always backfire. If transforming corn into gasoline was a practical idea, business would have done it without the governments interference.
So the price of food is going to rise significantly in Obama's pander for votes.
