When I grew up in Southern California, we had a night blooming jasmine in the back yard which just filled the air every night with a great smelling fragrance. I had a nursery in Maryland find one for me....same thing. Just magic. Is there a local source for one? How do they grow in Florida? Any problems?

We have one - it grows like a weed during the warm seasons, and needs to be trimmed periodically if you don't want it to be too tall. When we have frosts in the winter, it gets nailed, but comes back again once frosts stop, around march or so. I have mine in a partially shaded area where it doesn't get sun all day long. I believe I purchased it at Lowe's or Home Depot several years ago.

Look for the scientific name Cestrum nocturnum, it's not a true jasmine. I've also seen it called night blooming jessamine. They are easy to start from cuttings and will even root in water.

I do not have night blooming jasmine but have Carolina Jasmine. It grows on my lamp post and has yellow flowers about once a year. You can have a cutting, if you want.
