I just read an article about TV and it mentioned that The Villages encompass 5 square miles. How many square miles does TV really encompass?

A ruff guess would be about 65 Sq Miles if you include Brownwood.

One site says 20,000 acres which would be 31.5 square miles. Don't know if that is up to date.

I might be way off in my calculations but I thought The Villages was about 14 miles long and 6 miles wide (very rough guess) which would be around 84 square miles.

I figured from Hwy 441 & Main Street to Route 44 for length and edge of Fruitland Park to Brownwood for width.

I bet you read that article in the Tampa paper recently. I noticed the same mistake (5 sq. miles) and wondered where they got that info. I believe the 31 sq. miles posting is closer but a little low since we've been adding so many residents south of 466A.

Wikipedia stated 5 sq. miles so that is a possibility where they got the information from. I thought I read somewhere that it was closer to 39 sq. miles.

When we moved here early last year our salesman told us TV was just over 30 square miles, and that was probably not including the area below 466A since that area was not open yet.

I heard 30 sq. miles as well.... Wikipedia isn't always the most accurate source to go to for information

I live in Silver Lake and from my house to Brownwood it's 11 miles going down Morse. So unless it's less than 1/2 mile wide, 5 miles is way off. It's about 5.5 miles wide at it's widest point and about 4 miles wide on average. But, you'd have to consider that there are some areas within those boundaries that are not part of the Villages. So, the 31 square miles seems about right.

On TOTV several months ago Mansfield Landscaping had "Cool facts about the Villages" They say 32 square miles. This list is 101 facts and interesting.

The Wikipedia info of 5 sq miles was taken from the 2000 census. But, if you continue down to the local government section of this link, it gives you the number of acres per district.

Pretty sure 31.5 sq. miles would be correct prior to recent expansion south of 466A

If you go to the Daily Sun website and click on Advertising, then Rate Card, download the PDF view, you will see that they say TV encompasses 23,000 acres. This converts to 35.9 square miles.

Will someone start at Orange Blossom Garden's furthermost tip and drive South down to Brownwood and tell us how many miles that is?

I received some literature while there in May for my lifestyle visit that stated it was 32 square miles. I can't remember now what piece of paper it was on, but I do remember making a remark about that!

I took that ride virtually this AM.Using goolemaps.com and memason's bike routes it looks to be about 13 miles. See link:

E Schwartz Blvd to Unknown road - Google Maps (http://goo.gl/maps/Lz1kh)

Not as much fun when riding virtually... I do have Caly here and a fan blowing my hair, but not the same...

The longer ride to Brownwood is from the northwest tip.
