Watch your bill at Cody's

My wife and I just got back from Cody's and had a very good meal. We both had their Labor Day Special of 1/2 rotiserie chicken and 1/2 rack of baby back ribs plus ear of corn, baked sweet potato, rolls, and salad for $13.95. The ribs were falling off the bone tender, great chicken (we took most of the chicken home), good corn, sweet potato, rolls, and salad.

We started off with a Bloody Mary. They were advertised at the Drink Special of the Day (2 for 1). It was a tall Bloody Mary and very tasty. At Cody's, all of their drinks are 2 for 1 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. The normal price for the pair of Bloody Marys is $5.89. I looked at the check when the server brought it and the Drink Special said $7.09. I questioned that and the server said when she hits the Drink Special key on the computer, it comes up at $7.09. I asked her why the "special" was $1.20 more than the normal price and she could not tell me. She promptly took the extra $1.20 off the bill and then told us in the future if we wanted the Drink Special of the Day (Bloody Mary on Sunday) to ask the waitress to ring it in as Happy Hour Bloody Mary and not as the Drink Special of the Day.

It seems really stupid to me to have the "special" to cost more than the regular. I wonder how many others besides me caught this since each $1.20 is not much individually but to add them all together is a nice extra profit. If Cody's want to do that, they should at least have the price of the Drink Special of the Day posted.

Anyhow, just watch your bill and question anything that seems out of line.

but it was probably a key press error rather than deliberate

They are flexible at Cody's. Once I had steak and the salad that comes with the meal in the metal bowl. My wife wasn't hungry so the waiter said I'll bring you an empty dish and you can make a salad out of the bowl and only charged her $3.00 and the bowl had plenty of salad.

I love Cody's and have found them very accommodating and friendly.

So glad it was cleared up and having said that my evil eyed husband has caught errors in pricing in and out of The Villages but to be fair up North too. It's probably best we all take a second look. Thanks for the reminder!

With all the technology being used nowadays, it's no wonder some things don't turn out right on a restaurant bill. It's a matter of pushing one button (once the proper menu screen on the computer is found) to ring an item up. And if several buttons have similar descriptions........there's where problems can crop up.

We've had it happen to us before as well (not at Cody's, though). It's usually worth a glance at the bill (or receipt) to see if it makes sense. I'd hazard a guess that most of the mistakes of this nature are unintentional.

Last year I questioned Cody's half chicken and half a rack of ribs as the "half" rack was 4 ribs. After discussions with the manager he decided to bring more ribs. They brought out 9 more ribs. They offered a full rck for the price of the half but only if you challenge them.
