Went out last night, threw caution to the wind, and had a big night on the town square for 10.49 cents. First a movie, "Hope Springs". And then Wendy's where we each had a large chili and a side salad. Those two items cost 3.49 plus tax. The salad was good (I like salad) and the chili was really hot (too hot for my taste) but I injoyed it anyway. I'm kind of surprised that a fast food restaurant has done something to satisfy me.
Of course, if I knew how much sodium and fat was in the chili, I probably wouldn't be all that satisfied. ;)

If you go back to Wendy's, order a frosty -- yum. And how did you like Hope Springs?
Speaking of chili, when I was in suburban Cincinnati last weekend I had Skyline chili for the first time. My sister has lived in the Cincinnati area for 21 years, and this is the first time I have had Cincinnati style chili -- excellent. My brother-in-law told me that Gold Star chili is better, but I really liked Skyline's chili. :mmmm:

Not a Skyline chili lover. Nope...not to my liking at all!

Wendy's Chili is usually pretty darn good for fast food. I like it when there is a bit of "chill" in the air. Schumburger: Hope Springs has a thread under movie forum with various posts and various opinions.

The secret to Wendy's Chili is to ask for a couple of the hot sauce packets (sort of like the ketchup packets) to add to it.

I am totally surprised at the calories in a large Wendy's chili...only 310! Only 9 grams of fat which is very little. However, sodium is 1330 mg. If you are trying to keep your sodium intake to under 2000 mg. a day then that is way too much. But since I don't have to worry about sodium, this is an option I'm going to consider next time I eat at Wendy's.

Good for you, Villages PL. That's pretty close to "carefree". What did you both think of Hope Springs?

Overall, I didn't like it even though it had some good moments. It was rated PG-13 but I think it should have been rated R. It's all about an old couple who haven't had sex for years and the wife drags the husband to Hope Springs for sex therapy/counsling. It's an attempt to take a tragic relationship and turn it into a comedy but it doesn't work, in my opinion. I think it's more tragic than funny.

In that case, I could do it and just be careful not to use too much sodium in other foods for that day. I usually am careful about sodium anyway, plus the fact that I seldom eat out. I have good blood pressure and don't want to spoil it.

Basically, it was a trashy movie about an old couple. Who cares about the sexual problems of the elderly? I suppose a lot of older people can relate to it because they may have the same problems. It's a tragedy masquerading as a comedy. Not that it didn't get some laughs but it was pretty awful, in my opinion. My lady friend and I don't much care for such movies but we had no idea what it was going to be about. We made the best of it and didn't really say much about it afterward.

Why thank you, Mudder. Believe it or not we do go to Subway a few times per year. I usually go for the grilled chicken sub. Maybe I'll try the veggie sub next time.

Is Wendy's chili vegetarian? I don't eat beef, so I'd love to find a fast-food vegetarian chili.

Thank you, quirky. However, being a little obsessive, I have to comment that it's not anywhere close to being "carefree". Carefree is when someone walks into a fast food restaurant and can pretty much eat anything on the menu with total disregard for health. I doubt I could find more than 3 or 4 items on the menu that come "somewhat close" to meeting my standards for health. That's what's called "conscienceness". It's the price I willingly pay to maintain good (drug free) health in my senior years.

I forgot to mention something we found interesting at Wendy's. For a Friday night, it was remarkable how few customers they had. When we walked in, sometime before 7pm, there was only one person ahead of us in line. We took our time because we were talking and there was never more than 6 to 8 people in the place.
My theory is that there are just too many restaurants in the villages selling items like hamburgers, fries, soft drinks etc..

Villages Pl.- The couple in Hope Springs were hardly elderly. And despite your feelings on the subject, there is still plenty of sex among married couples in The Villages.

Sorry, I stand corrected. She looked fine but his face and huge stomach made him look very old. He must have had too many Wendy's hamburgers. :-) I met a 100 year old man who looked younger than him. You might know how old he is as an actor but how old was he in the role he was playing? All we know is that he was still working. But some people work until they are in their late 60s or even 70s. He could have been a 75 year old who married a younger woman.
How do you know there's plenty of sex among married couples in The Villages?
And I'd be interested to know how much "plenty" is, in your opinion.

And folks, this is an example of how a thread about Wendy's turns into a thread about sex. :BigApplause:

The couple in the movie had been married for 31 years so that would put them 50-60 years old and 18 of us girls in that age bracket thought it was pretty funny yet accurate (except for the separate bedrooms).

Once a king, always a king. Once a knight is enough.;) Just because you see snow on the roof doesn't mean there isn't a fire in the furnace. Lot of fun happenin' in The Villages and it's not all on the squares. Say Goodnight, Gracie.

What do I mean by "plenty sex among marredi couples? Well I am not referring to number of times per week etc. I mean that there are app. 85,000 people in the villages right now. Most, but certainly not all, are married. I would hate to think that the criteria for moving to the villages for married couples was abstinence.

Last romantic comedy that involved an older couple that I really liked was "It's Complicated", it came out a couple of years ago. I must of watched it 5 times on HBO.

Best Chili from a restaurant that I've had is at "Bob Evans", it's much better than Wendys. It's counted as a soup, so you can get it with a soup & salad combo or soup & half sandwich.

If you are at Wendy's, try their chocolate Frosty. Very refreshing!
