Is there anybody in the Colony Plaza area using prepaid phone contract with Virgin or Boost? If so, are you happy with the coverage? I dont want to drop $200 bucks on a phone and find out the coverage is poor, but I dont want to spend $80 bucks a month to make a couple of phone calls either on a 2 year contract. Any recommendations for any other prepaid phone carrier that works in the Sanibel and Charlotte areas? Thanks!

You may want to look at the Virgin no contract phones depending on how much you use your phone. You buy the phone and have a no contract $35.00 for unlimited text and messaging but only 300 talk minutes. The price is $30.00 is you use a credit card for monthly billing. Virgin is now part of Sprint so they are using their network system.
You need to take a good look at the costs of a contract phone vs. a non contract phone over the life of the required contract. The cell phone providers just love it when a new product comes online and everyone wants it. Verizon for example loves it because if you change phones you lose your unlimited plan and now get a different plan that over time will cost you more and make them more money.
The WSJ just this past week had a great video on this exact subject.

We're in Duval just North of the Duval pool. We use Net10 which I believe is owned by Tracphone. It's $30 for 60 days w/300 minutes. Our reception is great.

Another vote for Net10. We activate it each time we come to the USA and have had good reception up and down the East Coast and within the Villages.

Virgin is now owned by Sprint. When we had Sprint, we had to stand in the middle of the street in Sabal Chase in order to make & receive calls. Most of the unlimited plans such as Virgin, T-Mobile, etc use the Sprint towers.

Hey VG, for a virtual geezer you are well informed. I know I want to go prepay....after 30 years in the military I don't have any desire to talk anymore than is absolutely necessary. The real question is how good is the coverage, especially just south of 466A? The company phone (Sprint) worked just fine everywhere in TV, but it was an android. Will I get the same reception on a prepay?

I have Net10 prepaid and it was hard to get bars inside the house until the new ATT towers went on line a few months ago. Now coverage is great. However, I just ordered a new Tracfone prepaid (same company as Net10 so hopefully same coverage) which offers 100 minutes a month for $7 a month. The phone is only $30 and includes a 2 mp camera and web browsing. I think it's really worth looking into if you are a light phone user.

second vote for Puretalk. The $10.00 a month includes all taxes and any unused minutes rollover.

Where can I get a TracPhone?
I bought the triple minutes phone with web browser and 2MP camera. Walmart sells it for $50 and the one year card for $100 which gives you 100 minutes per month. Target has it on sale for $35 for the phone and $95 for the air time. I got mine from amazon.com for $30 for the phone and $85 for air time. Shipping was free and no tax. It came today and reception is great.
