It has a been a whirlwind, we sold our home in one week's time, had 6 offers over the asking price, and sold it termites and all.
We will be in TV for the first time, renting in Glenbrook, Sat 29-Sat Oct 6. On thurs and Fri the 27th and 28th, staying at daughter's in Orlando and we will be meeting with realtors in TV for fear of being homeless!!
My poor practical husband is hoping to believe that TV is everything I said it would be.
Any ideas of things we must do while we're there would be appreciated.
This is a dream come true for me and we haven't even been there yet!!

Boy are you in for a surprise. Whatever you have heard or seen on line . . . . it's 10 times better.

If you can, take the trolley tour which leaves from The Villages sales office in Lake Sumter Landing (LSL). It lasts about 1 hour I believe. You won't get to go all over TV, but it gives a nice "taste" of TV. When I went on the trolley tour in 2010, the area south of 466A was not open yet, so I'm not sure what route is now taken.

Go to both squares - Spanish Springs and LSL at night for dancing. Don't hesitate to ask questions -- most people are very happy to share their TV experiences with you. Happy house hunting

Congratulations! But, please don't bring the termites, please:angel: some of them might want to hitch a ride having heard great things about TV. Go check out the new Brownwood being built in addition to the other two centers. I think the best part of TV is the great neighborhood you'll be joining. If you are moving into a new section all the neighbors are new and will want to make extra effort to become good neighbors. Glenview is a great well established area and the country club is great. If you are a tennis buff, that's the place to be.

you will come and enjoy, we are not retiring for six more years and yet we bought a home on third stay..and if for some reason after you buy selling your home will be as easy as your last. Big deep breath you can always rent till you make sure this is the place...good luck

Great news for you guys! Congrats on the quick sale and relocation. Hope you have safe travels. I have to highly recommend the Village of Gilchrist because that's where we're building...lol! A lot of us have met on TOTV and are already planning parties. If you want to be where the excitement is come to Gilchrist!!!!

Welcome & Good Luck - Maybe by the time you arrive, the new town center - Brownwood - will be open. They will also have a sales office. I'm not sure about a trolley tour. The one from Lake Sumter Landing will show you "new" and "old". There's lots to choose from in terms of homes, again "new" & "well-loved". Have fun in your adventure and travel safe...

thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
in our area of Ca the inventory of homes is really low due to low appraised value of homes so nobody wants to sell their home. we have lost a ton of equity. but my husband had a heart attack in May, and we have decided to live our lives to the fullest.
We look forward to lower maintenance on a home and developing healthier and happier lifestyle.
People out here think we are CRAZY!
Can't wait to meet you all!

The people who think you're crazy have never been to TV. It's definitely all it's cracked up to be. Congratulations on selling your house and welcome to Lower Paradise!

Your statement highlighted in yellow above is exactly why TV is the place for you. You're not cowards, and are not afraid to try something new and unbelievably diverse. Most people I have met here are adventuresome and their chronological age does not even come to mind when talking with them.

WELCOME!

So glad to get to move to TV. I have only spent 10 days there and it felt like Utopia to me, so try anything and everything that interests you. Enjoy!

this is something I ponder all the time. I know people who have waited to retire and within a month of doing so have a stroke or heart attack and die. I think Nora Ephron said it best:

“Here are some questions I am constantly noodling over: Do you splurge or do you hoard? Do you live every day as if it's your last, or do you save your money on the chance you'll live twenty more years? Is life too short, or is it going to be too long? Do you work as hard as you can, or do you slow down to smell the roses? And where do carbohydrates fit into all this? Are we really all going to spend our last years avoiding bread, especially now that bread in American is so unbelievable delicious? And what about chocolate?”

I personally think you are doing the right thing...the heart attack was a warning and if you want to retire and can do it, then you should.

We got a map of the entire villages from a realtor here when we were looking. By ourselves, we rented a golf cart from the Villages Golf Car store for a day, took our map, and rode all over the Villages to see which neighborhoods/areas we liked best. This really helped us get a feel for where we would like to live.

I just KNOW that we are doing the right thing. A lot of these replies brought tears to my eyes, we have been through so much, so thank you all.
I plan on posting our first impressions of TV, as we begin the journey.
And we'll have to get the guest room ready in our new home as all the naysayers will want to come visit us as we drink the Kool-Aid!

We live in Central Valley, Modesto/Turlock area, that has been hit very hard with this economy. I grew up in the Bay area- San Leandro, also lived in Hayward, Castro Valley. San Ramon is beautiful.
We are in Orlando at my daughter's right now, will be in TV for first time this afternoon.
Have checked CA for retirement communities, there is nothing like TV in CA!!
Plus, no state income tax in FL. Gas is cheaper here.
Will be posting first impressions of TV. Happy Day!!

No Way!!! I attended Marina High in late 70's then moved out of state, so didn't graduate with my class, attended college out of state. I guess you can say I have been moving ever since. Lived in 4 other states, Believe Florida to be the last.
Small world indeed!!
