The Southern Illinois Club is a relatively new club and members are having a great time together. The next meeting is Monday, Sept. 24 at Captiva Rec. Center. Doors open at 6 pm and the meeting starts at 6:30 pm.
Meetings will always be held the fourth Monday of the month at Captiva with the exception of December. The Christmas dinner and party will be held at Bridgeport Rec. Center on Dec. 14.
For the September meeting, Amy Wixted, Program Director for the USF Health System, will explain how the new healthcare approach will work here in The Villages. Their mission is to make The Villages not only ‘America’s friendliest hometown’ but also the ‘healthiest’. The club will be providing popcorn and pretzels to snack on during the evening... please BYOB.
October’s meeting will be extra special. David Berardi, a 20-year professional magician, will perform his magic and comedy show, Up Close. Tickets for this will be $2.00 for members and $4.00 for guests. There will be an old fashioned ice cream social following the show. Tickets will be on sale at this month’s meeting. Please note that for this event, tickets will need to be purchased in advance to attend.
November’s meeting will feature Lloyd Singleton, a master gardener, speaking on Florida-friendly landscaping and winterization for the months ahead. Most all of us are in the same boat and new to Florida. What worked in Illinois may or may not work here. We need to learn what’s best for us here in our new ‘habitat’.
The First Annual Southern Illinois Club Christmas Dinner and Dance Party. The date will be Dec. 14 and the event will be held at Bridgeport Rec. Center. Dinner will be provided by Oakwood Steakhouse and Grill. Music will be performed by Rich and Juna Lyon for dinner and dancing. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning at this month’s meeting. Member’s tickets will be $15.00 and guest tickets will be $17.00. There will be several things planned to make our 1st Annual Party memorable. Again, tickets need to be purchased in advance at the monthly meetings.
Illinois... where our governors make our license plates :icon_wink:
