Lanai indoor-outdoor carpeting?

We have a covered lanai with screens on 3 1/2 sides, cement floor. We'd like to put in indoor-outdoor carpeting which would get wet at the edges in heavy rainstorms. Does anyone have experience with this, suggestions?

We put outdoor carpeting from Home Depot on our screened porch...looks like grass. Our old outdoor carpeting (that also looked like grass) lasted for 25 yrs, so we decided to put the same stuff down. It's called 12' Vantage-Ivy Green. Cost $5.85 a yard. I think it might come in other colors. We had 30 1/2 yards for a total of about $180 plus tax. The installer cut it to size and glued it down. We have a name of the installer if you want, he did a good job and was inexpensive ($140). Home Depot did not want to install - not a large enough job for them.

Do you really want to have "wet grass" whenever it rains? Cleaning it will not be as easy mopping up a tile floor after a hard rainstorm with horizontal rain. Although if you have a shop vac, you can vacuum the wet area which would accelerate the drying time.
We had a decking painted on our Lanai in our original build instead of leaving it just concrete. Very nice, easy to clean and looks better than concrete. I am able to scrub it and hose it down when needed, which was often because of all the construction going on. When we had our CYV we had tiled it. Also very happy with that, although the downside was keeping the grout lines clean. Make sure there were weep holes put in at the base of the screens to get the water out after a hard rain.

I've been using a regular indoor/outdoor carpet (8 X 12) under our patio set. Yes it gets wet on the edge near the outside but so far no mold. I like the feel of the carpet (very thin and made for outdoors - bought at Target) and it makes the area look like more of a normal sitting area IMHO.

Not expensive so maybe once a year or so I'll change it if the mold sets in. It does dry very quickly though.

I've found that just dumping some Chlorox mixed with water on indoor/ outdoor capet removes mold and doesn't effect the color.

The "grass like" outdoor carpet that we had for 25 years, dried very quickly and did not get moldy. We never had to vacuum up any water. Tile is also a good choice, but more expensive to install. The outdoor carpet is very inexpensive and can be replaced easily.

We did the same thing on our screened lanai. The edge of the carpet gets wet but dries out quickly as Russ mentioned. I did find one area of mold on the underside of the carpet, but it just scrubbed off with a brush, so i check it once or twice a year now and clean if necessary. We've had it on the lanai for 2 or 3 years with no problem. We did choose a medium/darker brown color that wouldn't show the dirt, but it goes with our dark wicker furniture. I think we picked our carpet up at Lowe's or Home Depot. In addition we had bought some sort of concrete epoxy paint, etched and then painted the concrete floor, which makes it easy to clean up as well.

I don't know how you'd go about finding it, but I watched them re-carpet the Bocci courts at Fish Hawk rec. center several months ago. The installer told me that TV didn't spare any expense buying that carpet and it was the best of the best. It is very well padded underneath and will probably hold up for years.

Great Lakes Carpet & Tile does the carpeting for TV. So last year when we wanted a tile backsplash in the kitchen and indoor/outdoor carpeting on our lanai for our new home, we went to their showroom on 27/441 just before Lowe's. We picked out the tile for our kitchen and carpet for the lanai. The salesman told us to take the carpet samples home so we could see how it would look on site. I'm glad we did, the sample in the showroom wouldn't of matched our indoor carpet, we wanted it to look lilke a continuation of our home floor.

The salesman came out that afternoon and measured the lanai and the backsplash area, picked up the samples and we had everything installed the following week. The 14' x 8' lanai and the kitchen backsplash with all materials and labor for everything came to $1100. They did a great job!

also something that might be a little more eco friendly - spray both of Hydrogen Peroxide - this will even kill black mold -- and basically all it is - is oxygenated water!
